If I'm the Wild I'm trying to pry Ottawa's '22 1st for Fiala - their top prospects are almost all defensemen which the Wild already have plenty of in the pipeline.

You either make it 2022 protected or 23, but not both

The hawks would be interested in the Murray Dump, but not at that price. I would think it costs your second this year at a minimum.

This trade would happen after the draft lottery for the 2022/23 season so it wouldn't make sense to do a 2022 protected because the pick will already be determined. I also wouldn't trade something like a 6th overall this draft for fiala.

What I am saying is, only one year, this year can be protected, if not next year, no conditions. That's how trades works

Wild not getting a top prospect and or a top 10 pick for fiala, players who are leagues above him in talent didn't even get top 10 picks or top prospects for the team trading them, the only time a team gets a top 10 pick is when the team getting the players...completely bombs the following year, see OTT with the Duchene trade and SJS with the EK trade, neither team saw themselves at the bottom of the rankings when they traded their 1st round picks. It is up to wild scouting teams to find gems in other teams B prospects like OTT did with Norris

Correct me if I’m wrong but that literally what the trade is. A ‘ 23 1st that’s too 10 protected and slides to ‘24 unprotected if that condition is met….

No then from Minnesota. Why would Minnesota wait two years or none? Either you have up 2022 pick , or you protect 2022 pick and 23 pick won't be protected. No team is waiting fir another team to be good before getting pick

Pretty standard stuff. You’re not getting the ‘22 pick unprotected so you wait because it’s potentially the best offer. If the trade is made after the draft this year then the 1st would be for “this year” with protection.

Then no, other teams will. No gm especially Guerin will say yes

He most likely ends up on LTIR though

Still interested? The guy has had too many concussions/head injuries to get cleared for contact again. I could be wrong but I think it's safer if he doesn't play in the NHL anymore

That’s not very convincing to me. Maybe add in another conditional pick that gets transferred to Chicago if Murray plays another game on his current contract.

What do you mean not very convincing? I mean, I know I am not the Sens doctor lol

But I am a goalie and while I never had any concussions (very lucky I guess as I used to skate and snowboard too), I can see him physically not being able to play at that level anymore. It happened to another Sens goalie very recently : Anders Nilsson who was just 31 y/o and looked solid for Ottawa

Anyway, if he ends up on LTIR, Ottawa doesn't really need to move him, they'll just collect the cheque from the insurance company

Unless it would be beneficial to another team then maybe a deal could be made but Ottawa has absolutely no obligation to trade his contract (and PAY ASSETS), which will expire before they need that cap space.

I mean I don’t know if I believe Murray’s career is over. If it is, point taken.
