I like the idea of a Stephenson, but if he wants a longer deal then the Wild might not want to commit when there are highly-touted kids coming up in the next couple years. Don't want to box them out... this team has done that for far too long.

Why are you giving Wallstedt 7x6.5? No way he gets anything close to that unless he somehow bursts out early and becomes the bonafide starter next season over Gus. I think there is a better chance that Guerin comes back with Gus and Flower one more time at this stage. You don't rush tenders, even ones with stock like Jesper's.
I would expect a bridge deal after Wallstedt's ELC is up.

Nice, hope he works out. Wallstedt sadly has had an awful baby Wild team in front of him this year; hope to see him sooner than later on the big club.

Nah.
I don't think there is a price for Wallstedt right now, his stock makes him too important to be included in any trade. And as much as I like Malkin, I think it would be a mistake to trade so much potential just to get him in his twilight. Karlsson, even with retained salary, I think would also be an anchor for what the Wild are trying to do with their blue line. If Spurgeon and his AAV were not in the picture, I would like that fit a lot.

I get it, should have looked at hockey-reference before commenting. I still stand by my point of not taking on that much money in goalies, especially an aging one, and with Wallstedt coming. But, thanks for the hip check!

Potential trades for next season
Even though the Wild will have more money to throw around next year despite the last year of the big dead cap hits, I don't think they will want to spend it on goaltending after having already re-signed Gustavsson. Almost 10M spent on two goalies who have struggled this season is way too tough of a pill to swallow.
I think they sooner not give up any assets and either see if Wallstedt is ready to be the backup or perhaps re-sign Fleury for one more go.

Leafs sign a UFA Dman instead of trading Cowan and a first rounder and their no implications instead of one Hronek.
Too much $$$ and term for the inconsistent Duclair
Too much $$$ and term for the fading, aging Lindholm.</div></div>
I don't think the Wild take it either, but for what it's worth they actually would have the room even next season if they offload Boldy's AAV in this trade.

Losing the dead weight
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNCountryClub</b></div><div>Yeah and realistically, optimizing the ELC isn't the end all be all. If burning a year means a better development path, I'd strongly consider it. You can always send him back to the WHL later in the year, if it isn't working as well as you'd like. Though I do imagine we'll have a pretty good idea one way or another after camp, preseason, 9 games, etc.
And you're right about next year being another lame duck, let's all wait for the dead cap to expire season.</div></div>
Exactly. If he kills it immediately, it will be Faber all over again where you don't give a damn about burning a year and then you decide what to do with Mojo/Freddy who are on cheap deals anyway. Doubtful that happens in 24-25, but ya never know. I'm excited that these kids will finally be showing their stuff soon.

Losing the dead weight
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNCountryClub</b></div><div>Yeah the issue with Mojo is that they won't actually waive him. I think if he was given the ultimatum of "AHL or trade", he would waive the NTC, but Guerin isn't gonna do that. Even if it works on paper and in theory.
Heidt probably won't be ready IMHO, but it will be fun to see if he can get his 9 games and what he does with them.
Tbh, one thought I had with Heidt (if he does impress but maybe not quite full-time) is if they'd ever consider something like what Anaheim is doing with Carlsson - a deliberately reduced schedule. You obviously want him playing, but I do wonder if 40-45 NHL games is better than 68 WHL games for a guy like him.</div></div>
Good thought. I suppose it depends on whether he looks like he belongs in those first 9 before the ELC starts ticking. We all know how that usually goes, but the fact that they signed him after only one year of junior after getting drafted tells me they might have that type of plan. And everyone would rather see him and/or the other kids than a re-tread like Mojo on the second line. I'm not too worried either way, next year is another year of waiting time before the cap room finally comes back.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNCountryClub</b></div><div>No need to buy Mojo or Gaudreau out. Just waive em to Iowa.
Gaudreau especially, it's no difference in the cap hit beyond the first year, but it's twice as long with a buyout.</div></div>
Agreed, just send them through waivers. Or Mojo could be traded fairly easily, I'd think.
And I don't think Flower would need to be paid 3.5 again. 2M or so, is my thinking. Otherwise this looks alright. I really do wonder whether Heidt makes a push for the team, especially if Mojo/Freddy are jettisoned.

I can see how what I said made it seems that way, but I wasn't trying to act like Dvorak is the main piece. Meant to say that from an organizational perspective, how is this a forward move for the Wild? A top 5 pick... who cares? Boldy is a proven top 6 star and the Wild are trying to compete now.

Why is Minnesota trading away their up and coming star winger for a re-tread third line center? This is a backwards move for the Wild.

Same, love that they are getting him on the ELC so quick. I know he’s already lighting up the OHL but the Wild must really see a lot of potential in him to bring him in this quickly. Between him and Yurov, I’m pumped.

Offseason Series - WILD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Why does there have to be a trade at all? Why can't the Wild just keep him?</div></div>
For the reasons I just mentioned: selling high, team currently being on the smaller side, having to pay those four players all at the same time before 25-26, the chance at obtaining another top-4 D that the org's prospect pool lacks since Faber graduated. Plus, if Yurov or Heidt turns into a viable center maybe that also moves the needle.
Certainly they can keep him, and maybe are content doing so, but it is fun to think about the possibilities.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ac3L1ght</b></div><div>No shot we dangle Rossi, unless someone will offer the house for him. Otherwise I WANT ALL OF THE CENTERS</div></div>
And some team very well could, seeing as how most are looking for centers who produce. I think the chances of trading him are definitely low, but if Guerin sells high on him and the haul includes a cornerstone D who can be the heir apparent to Spurgeon in a couple years? Part of my thinking also is that the top nine of this team will be dangerously small going into next season between Rossi, Khusnutdinov, Kaprizov, Johansson, and Zuccarello.
Maybe it's a trade that happens summer of 25' instead, when Rossi, Faber, Khusnutdinov, and Wallstedt all have to be given contracts. We'll see!

Depending on how Khusnutdinov does the rest of this season, I think Rossi is dangled this summer if they can get a nice enough return (package him and Middleton for a higher upside top-4 D perhaps?). I also think it is a coin flip on whether Fleury comes back for one more go.
