Ottawa declines. Dumba will be a UFA and almost 29 years old at the end of next season. Seeing as Ottawa isn't making a cup run next year I'd rather keep Thomson.

If they want any chance of contending that’s what it’s going to cost. Nobody is trading away top tier players for Keiffer Bellows and a middle 1st round pick lol.

People were saying the same thing about Ristolainen last off season, we’ll see what happens.

Who said anything about kieffer bellows and a mid 1st? I really have no idea where you got that from. Minnesota has no leverage at all. Lou tells guerin to f*** off.

You really missed the point of his post. Dumba doesnt fit ottawas timeline at all. Risto 100% fit phillys at that time.

Every single Isles post has them trading Bellows and a 1st for Fiala. Everybody likes to say Minnesota has no leverage at all and it’s hilarious, as If we don’t own the players rights and could quite literally just extend him ourselves. If we have no leverage we might as well just trade him for a 7th round pick, right? Don’t act like you know what you’re talking about.

In what way does Risto fit phillys timeline? They are years away from any sort of contention. Ottawa is 1 or 2 game changers and solid goaltending away from being in contention.

Ive never suggested bellows and a mid first for fiala. So idc what other people are saying thats the most asinine comment ive seen. But that aside if you could just extend him yourselves you would. Minnesota doesnt have enough cap space to keep fiala.

There is a million different ways to create space to re-sign him and 80% of them have little to no effect on the team.

They werent before the season. They had been to the 2nd round a year before and missed the playoffs in a year where they only played in division and got really unlucky goaltending. Look at the way the whole roster is structured. They wanted to be competing now. Ottawa isnt trying to compete now, theyre still in a rebuild.

But yeah just because we have to create some space to re-sign him means we have no leverage at all in a potential trade, yep that makes sense.

Ottawa is trying to compete by next year, Dorion said it himself that this is the last year of the rebuild. Philly also just extended Risto for 5 years lol.

So 2 things. In terms of ottawa dorion wants to get out of the rebuild and start competing next year. That means try to get a playoff spot not win the cup. Teams dont go from rebuild to cup contenders in 1 year. Its a process. Also teams coming out of a rebuild dont usually trade significant assets for rentals.
As for philly everything points to them still trying to compete. The way their roster is structured as well as their decision not to move key pieces at the TDL (konecny, sanheim etc). Not just that but rn philly isnt moving good assets for rentals. I dont see any reason if ottawa wanted a player they wouldnt give him a contract. But a 5 year deal makes a hell of a lot more sense than a 1 year contract for a team coming out of a rebuild as well as the fact that a FA signing only costs cap space no assets.

you realize fialia has never scored more than 25 goals right? two top assets for a guy who has scored less than ebele (a guy we gave up for free) is insane. Isles don't need some overrated winger who will give them more of nothing, we have bailey, palmieri, and (had) eberle for that. No thanks

In fact, so much so I'd hardly want to trade anything for him. 7x7 on our books would be a nightmare.

Yes. Because they have the pieces they feel they need to be a great FUTURE team so they won't be taking on bad contract to acquire picks or looking to sell off talented players at the deadline. What they need now is TIME. And unless TBL, FLA and TOR suddenly crash and burn it's not like OTT is guaranteed a playoff spot next season. We aren't giving up Thomson and 2nd just to have Dumba until the deadline. HARD NO.

If Dorion’s plan is to stand pat with the lineup he has right now in hopes of being a contender it’s going to take another 2-3 years at best. If I recall correctly he said he is willing to trade his 2022 1st. I find it hard to believe that he wouldn’t trade for immediate help this off season, whether it be Dumba or someone else.

It is insane that you feel entitled enough to think the isles need to give all this up for Fiala. They do not need to trade for Fiala.

you sound like the same guy that said Isles should trade Barzal and Pulock for Duchene in 2017. Both weren't regulars in the NHL, Duchene was established. Raty is well on his way to being a top line center, he just had a nearly identical D+1 season to Anton Lundell. He's not available.
