This was my thought, either way this trade doesn't work for the Sabres.

Not saying the value is right but the difference is DeBrincat's name was brought up at the trade TDL, Dahlin's wasn't. But to be fair and answer your question the answer is NO bc Dahlin isn't available.
Give me your take on a DeBrincat return...it can be the Sabres or in general.

If I had just traded everything I had for Seth Jones and my stars were unhappy and ready to go? Maybe.

I would contend that dahlin > debrincat

Dahlin has to prove a lot to be considered better than Cat. I was being generous comparing them as equals

In all sincerity, Dahlin is closer to Shayne Gostisbehere and Tyson Barrie than to Debrincat. I know he's young and will definitely get better on the defensive side of the game as he matures, but he's not there right now. Debrincat's shortly going to have his 2nd 40 goal season and neither of those are his best Goals per game which was in the bubble.

The question of Dahlin vs DeBrincat is a side bar to what is the main question...what does DeBrincat bring back? Actually I would take Olofsson out of there as he isn't what Chicago would be looking to take back and add a prospect.

I hear ya. I think he was rumored to be on the market just to see what he could get. Never actually intending to trade him. The price would be insane. It would be something that I'd say...Holy BeJesus, BUF shouldn't do that trade.

Hard to say...I think if a DeBrincat trade were to happen that's a draft day trade. Chicago throws it out there now to start the ball rolling and gauge if the return is worth trading him. I think a lot matters what happens with Toews and Kane this summer.

Are you basing his value on 4 months of play? That's how you know these two aren't even close. Again, I think Dahlin will 100% get there...he's just not there yet.

I'm basing it on him scoring more points as a teenager than Bobby Orr AND his development into a #1 defensmen under Granato AND that he's still very young

100% agreed. I don't have a crystal ball, but I'm hoping Kane decides to stay. I've been telling other Hawks fans that we need to find out what we've got with our current players/prospects. Trading Hagel was the right time and the right price. Which kinda ties to our conversation...I guess. It'll have to knock our socks off. Obviously 4 games doesn't make/break a player, but TRad's got 4 points in 4 games. He's certainly not as fast as Hagel, nor likely to draw as many penalties, but he's more physical and certainly popping up on the scoring sheet. Steady as she goes.

Did Dahlin win the Norris? I forgot. You're boxing out some very odd stats and extrapolating/comparing Dahlin to an 8 time Norris winner. Orr had a 31 point season and a 41 point season and won the Norris with 41 points. He's the one that revolutionized the way Defense is being played, but this isn't a serious conversation anymore. Dahlin is a good player. He's developing into a fine #1 Dman. He needs to work on the defensive side of his game. I didn't say he's a bust. I didn't say he stinks. He'll get there as he matures.

I think what @littlejerryseinfeld is saying is he has made great strides since the beginning of the year...I understand you probably don't watch a ton of Sabres games just as I don't watch a ton of Black Hawk games but it seems the light has gone off in Dahlins head...totally different player than in the past. He's more vocal in and out of the dressing room, he's taking a leadership role and he's not afraid of pushing back (doesn't mean we'll be seeing him drop the gloves anytime soon LOL). He's become a different player for sure. I think Adams and Granato deserve credit as this team is loose and as close knitted as I've seen a Sabres team since the Drury/Briere days. I really don't even see why these two are being compared to be honest

No way lol. Prospects like Jack Quinn don't get traded, especially with DeBrincat needing a big contract too.
