I was wondering about this. How exactly are they cap compliant?

Leafs never used Muzzin's LTIR. At least I don't think they did.

Cap friendly uses the simple salary cap hit formula, but the NHL works it a little more complicated. This is why teams actually like trading for and having LTIR contracts, it allows you to go over the high cap limit.

I just hope he is NHL competent player. Muzzin has been poor this season. Gee, if Sandin wasn't injured, I question if Muzzin should even be in the lineup.

So it can be used as an overage even when he's not on it any longer?

It's been really bad for him and it's been a poor season, but he was definitely a NHL competent player. It's just this guy was an elite two-way guy the last three years, and I think how the drop off looked relative to those years make it seem worse.

I just know that a team can't accumulate cap space when a player is on LTIR. But honestly I don't really understand LTIR fully.

I think the plan is keep him on LTIR.

Kind of surprised though the Gio trade wasnt a 3-way where Dubas sends a 6th or Duzak to the other team to another 50% of Gio's deal.

Like I mentioned in another post thread, when Dubas placed Mrazek on waivers, signed an UFA goalie and seeing Arz trade their best goalie Wedgewood, I truly believe Leafs and Yotes were working a Mrazek trade. Dubas just couldn't agree whether an unsigned draftee or Marlie player and a mid Rd pick should be involved.

So this ties into your 3 way trade with a broker team by Dubas believing he was going get Arz to eat $3 million of Mrazek, which would have giving the Leafs plenty of cap space for a healthy roster, or even him add another left winger.

Maybe

Still think some time in the AHL will be good for him as we have seen with other goalies in the past a little trip often helps. And who knows maybe he returns to form as lets be honest having Campbell and 2 guys who barely have NHL experience would not spell confidence. Plus Mrazek has been good in some games but the issue is consistency. He never seems to do what he did in those games to achieve success. Its just go on an adventure and seemingly ask himself where are my posts.

Now that does not mean I think hes here going forward. I think he is gonna go to a team needing a 1B and who fits his playstyle.

Also not gonna lie I got a feeling the problem also is linked to Briere as how has he not worked on Mrazek's positioning. Kind of think a new goalie coach may be needed but thats just me

Cause I think the tandem that may happen is Campbell/Reimer or Campbell/Murray (rumors are he may get bought out)
