I’d ask for at least a first for Connor Brown or a top prophecy because Matthew Phillips does nothing and his size will be a huge turn off for the Ottawa organization. Dune is and a second is nice but not enough.

Don't think Dermott would play in 75% of games, really a safety net if a guy goes down and when Zadorov walks in the off season!

Saying Phillips does nothing isn't really true, over a PPG in the AHL isn't anything to shake a stick at, size can certainly be a deterrent but he will play NHL games, he's nearly an identical size to Tyler Ennis.

Yes, but Ennis is a veteran that has proven he can play, his size will still be a major turnoff for the Ottawa organization because they want a big punishing team, Phillips doesn't fit that bill and he would be playing in the bottom six in which he would struggle. Ennis also had to work his way onto the Ottawa roster.

Fair thought, I think you're misjudging it wildly though as opposed to looking at the numbers from junior, AHL to the first years in the pros for Ennis compared to Phillips. I can't speak towards what Ottawa is trying to build as an identity and won't try to but Phillips could be a really good piece on a lot of rosters in the next couple years.

Edmonton won't get anything for Lagesson, they'll just claim him on waivers.

I'm not the one that proposed the trade, I'm just saying that the Oilers would accept?

Likewise how do you claim a player on waivers when he isn't on waivers?

He probably goes on waivers again, then if a team needs him they get him, but ya, Edmonton accepts.

I think it's a business and if he were moved to Calgary and no one would blink twice, he sure wouldn't re sign but being acquired for a playoff run is a part of the business and he's a grown up. I think both sides came out after the deal saying it's not a good process but no one is jaded cause of it. Definitely a factor though!

Not very good value on the Brown trade, would have a very hard time seeing Ottawa touch that.

Can't imagine theyre overly interested in Dube considering how deep the left side is and weak the right is at the moment. Phillips is in his D+5 season with only 1 NHL game to his name, AHL production is fine but at this point he's barely a prospect and is likely close to his ceiling. I saw you compare him to Ennis but realistically theres not much in terms of similarities apart from height.

Toffoli has 2 extra years on his deal, Brown only has 1 but it is a 3.6m instead of 4.25m and Brown is 2 years younger as well. Brown's also scored at better pace than Toffoli did this season while arguably playing with worse linemates (pre-trade) . Not to mention Brown is one of the leagues leading pkers. I'm not saying that Brown deserves the Toffoli return but it should definitely be a lot closer to that return than this one. If this is Calgary's best offer, someone else will beat it or Ottawa just keeps him.

i guess i just have a feeling the habs would try to trade him somewhere else if they can. but i agree with what you are saying.
