Trade Deadline Take II

Créé par: Hockey_Hippy
Équipe: 2021-22 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 22 févr. 2022
Publié: 22 févr. 2022
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Adding more offensive thump and defensive commitment to the forward group.
Transactions
1.
TOR
  1. Giroux, Claude (4 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Leafs get a 33 year old UFA to be for 3 months, though admittedly a storied one. Giroux gets one last kick at the can for a ring.
PHI
  1. Abruzzese, Nick [Liste de réserve]
  2. Anderson, Joey
  3. Kerfoot, Alexander
  4. Rubins, Kristians
Détails additionnels:
All four will play for the Flyers next year which is what they are looking for as opposed to picks. The prize here is Abruzzese who is a Hobey Baker finalist and stood out at the Olympics for the Americans. Rubins would have been there for Latvia as well (he was selected for their team) but he is on an NHL deal. Anderson is a bottom six guy but he will play. Kerfoot is a nice shield defensively for younger players so as not to toss them to the wolves too early.
2.
TOR
  1. Nelson, Brock (2 000 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Leafs get a cheaper Brock Nelson for three years after this one. Someone who can either push Tavares to the wing (post face-off) or act as 2nd option on a third scoring line with one of the other skilled forwards. He is big with good jam, speed, and defensive responsibility. And he is battle tested.
NYI
  1. Der-Arguchintsev, Semyon
  2. Hollowell, Mac
  3. Robertson, Nicholas
  4. Scott, Ian
  5. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Isles get the top prospect in the Leafs system in Robertson and his junior running mate in SDA who has been on one helluva heater since returning from injury. Under Trotz Hollowell can be molded into a 3rd pair/2nd PP option on the backend from the right side. Scott is admittedly a bit of a flyer because of his recent injury history and COVID which shutdown the ECHL where he was supposed to develop because the Leafs had and still have a glut of goalies in the pipeline.

Flyers decline. Not enough for G with half retained, plus there would need to be at least one draft pick included. This team is in a full scale rebuild, we don't necessarily need players as much as you think. There is no shot this team is competitive for the next 2/3 years.

That is a laughable offer for Giroux.

Easiest no the Flyers will EVER have to give.

So the Islanders are getting:

-a 5'9" winger who looks like a good player but can't stay healthy;
-a 5'9", 23 y/o defenseman;
-SDA, who will most likely wind up stapled to a Barry Trotz bench;
-Ian Scott, a goalie who has played 239 professional minutes since leaving the WHL in 2019'
-oh, and here's a 3rd round pick.

And all they have to give up is their perennial 20-25 goal scoring 2C? Oh, and carry a dead cap hit of $2M for the next 3 years? Where can they sign up for this sterling offer???

Considering the rumours, thats a pretty poor offer for Giroux.

I think you're massively over rating some of the Leafs on there.

Joey Anderson is not an NHL forward, hes half way through his 4th pro season and has pretty much looked poor throughout. If he was a NHL player, he'd be there.
Rubins and Abruezze are both nice mid level prospects, but every team has a dozen midlevel prospect. Is Abruezze better than Brink, O'Brien, Cates, Foerster, Desnoyes, probably not, but then theres 5 better forward prospects in TMLF pipeline than him too. Most publications had him as the Leafs 12-17th best prospect. Same with Rubins, is he better than Ginning, York, Zamula, Attard in Philly probably not.

And a healthy Philly doesn;t need Kerfoot: (Koneckny, Farabee, Lindblom are all younger) so I can;t see Kerfoot being a big piece in the trade. Its four pretty "meh" pieces, none of which Philly probably desire and not even close to what the rumours say they want or've been offered.

Just dont think any of those pieces have the value, and its not what you want to offer, its about what they'll accept or what they need/want.

Yeah, I somehow also missed the part where the Islanders get to send a 2nd rounder to Toronto *after* retaining $2M for the next 3 years.
