I think if you wanted to make that trade with VGK, you could definitely take more from them(maybe a 1 or 2). You're taking on 7.325M in AAV for next season's Pens team, who have a ton of guys to sign, and giving them a cheap UFA goalie to help them get under the cap for Eichel. Brisson is a good pickup, but I feel like taking *two* salary dumps gets a little bit more from Vegas.

Keith has a full NMC, he won't waive for Pittsburgh. And he's been the Oilers best defenseman for much of the season - he seems to have turned back the clock a bit - so the Oilers won't be interested in moving him anyhow.

If I'm the Pens' GM, I'm looking at it this way: I'm giving you DeSmith for the rest of this year so I can take $7.325M off your cap hit this year *and* next. DeSmith keeps the seat behind Lehner warm this year before Logan Thompson comes up to be Lehner's backup for, I'd assume, the next 3 seasons (he's on his ELC with a $766K cap hit). The Pens have a ton of key guys they need to figure out about resigning next year, with Rust, Malkin, Letang, Evan Rodrigues, Zach Aston-Reese being the highlights of their UFAs, and only 7 forwards, 4 D, and 1 goalie on the current under contract for next year. Brossoit's contract isn't a huge AAV but it's not going to be easy to move when he's nothing better than a backup and there are a ton of UFA goalies who will be available to back up for less than $2.325

Adding that $7.325M in two players who aren't necessarily good, for a team with as many cap issues as Vegas, isn't going to come cheap. Brisson looks to be a solid top 6 player for sure, but the Pens are taking back a lot of cap from a team that needs room to sign enough guys for a full team next year. If Pittsbugh's GM doesn't bleed as much as possible when he's making that deal, he's doing his organization a major disservice.
