Call it a 1a 1b 1c forward group. My guess it’s not enough from montreals side of things, but I’m curious what people think.

Well, toffoli costs pelltier, 1st, 2nd.

But.. Dvorak does not return only Backlund and pitlick. We're not trading him unless overpay, you could keep both of those players in, but you have to add dubé, 2nd

Considering Pelletier +1st +2nd is what it would take just for Toffoli, you'd have to add another pick and then swap Backlund with a prospect to also get Dvo

OR . . . the second-best team in the Pacific Division could stand pat and keep their #2C (who's an improvement on Dvorak), their #1 prospect and their 2023 first-round draft pick. Hmmm . . . which is better, which is better? . . . Hmmm, which is better, which is better?

Its just the wrong pieces

Could we interest you in Armia
We dont really got a Center to give up
Even a rebuild team needs Faceoff Support for their youth
Dvorak and Suzuki are #33 and #25 in Faceoff Wins (Suzuki's the only habs to not miss time )
Outside 10 players Dvorak took 75-200 faceoffs less or he'd be ranks top 20 like usual

Even still we need a 4th Center for Bulk Faceoffs
Suzuki's win rate is brutal largely due to having to take on more with Dvorak
Our 4th line Centers have struggled all year
While Evans had a positive win rate his offense only come out when he's on Wing

We'd be willing to give up Poehling for that reason
He's actually turning into a pretty good NHL regular
Issue is he sucks at DZ faceoffs to the tune of 34% but averages 48-51 in OZ and NZ
On a team like CGY with Lindholm,Monahan,Richardson and Dube it makes Backlund who's declining expendable

I think on a team with talent and depth he'll thrive
He's just not the top 6 guy we wanted him to be
Similar to Bennet its time for MTL to move on soon
Also like Bennet that doesnt mean he's not going to thrive in a different system

This is not a bad proposal. I first saw Toffoli and Dvorak and thought “ohhhh boy here we go” expecting something like Valimaki, Lucic, Dube and a 2nd. I was pleasantly surprised by this proposal.
It would definitely get Montreal to think. I think it’s going to take a lot to get Toffoli out of MTL. Hes a great leader for Suzuki and cole. It would take something like Pelletier and a 1st which is a lot . As for Dvorak , I think they will hold on to him for now too since we don’t know if we are getting a centre in the draft. With Dvorak gone, we have very little centre depth even for a team that is going to rank next year.

All this to say, good proposal but I don’t think those 2 are available barring an EXTREME overpay. The players who are available are Gallagher, Petry, Drouin, Savard, Chiarot, Lehkonen, Hoffman

Watched him in Junior
He's really not

He's AHL good 100%
But at the NHL level i just cant see it
He's physical enough but i just dont see him as a Checker
He'd have to jump straight to top 6 to find success as his game is OZ driving the net and screening the goalie
He can take a beating but he's never finished a complete year in Junior as such as he's always injured

He might very well succeed
But not in MTL
You'd need a team with a Tkachuk type to constantly jump in for this guy
Otherwise you're looking at a less resilient and more injury prone Gallagher unless he suddenly changes his game and becomes a shooter

I've watched my handful of him too and to me he looks poised to fall somewhere in between Marchand and Gallagher at the NHL level

I watched Marchand in the same arena actually take us to Memorial Cup finals
Sat beside him in Math class 10-3 at Harrison Trimble to boot(really nice guy)

Its different levels
Its like when people called Garland the next Marchand because he took multiple league scoring titles playing a similar style
Issue is they were completely different players despite being a similar size and having a strong Goal Scoring talent

Im not saying he's not skilled
I just see him as more of a Martin Havlat type
When he's healthy teams line up to grab him
Issue is after a few years in the NHL those good years were few and far between

Not saying its impossible , its not
I'd say he's got 60/100 odds based on today's play to date
Those are a bit above average as far as Dobber rankings go outside the top 5 drafted yearly
Odds are in his favor i just dont see staying power in him being able to stay healthy long enough to enjoy it

Only way to safe guard this is to have 2 tough guys on his wing giving him the Gretzky treatment
It will allowing him to play his game without having to deal with getting gooned like Gallagher or Marchand constantly.
They had good records of being healthy and making their games pre-nhl and are still banged up big chunks of some season
Pelletier unless he packs on a ton of muscle so he can fight off big hits but even then that's a hail mary as he seems to just always be hurt
Sometimes its Concussion , Sometimes its lower or upper body which is ironically the only thing he has going on that front is its not an annual injury to the same spot
Its just his style taking a toll

We have a guy just like this called Joel Teasdale who was a great player in junior battling it out with Nick Suzuki his final year
Suzuki scored more with 9 more points in 4 more games but lost the Memorial Cup and the Memorial Cup MVP to Joel Teasdale who Bouchard and Ducharme call Gallagher lite
What do you think his trade value is ?
Despite that he has a high value to us despite injury history he's a big game player

I think we need to wait and see here, Pelletier hasnt gotten an injury so far this year and has been dominant at the AHL level. Also as you mentioned none of his injuries are reaccuing ones.

I liked Teasdale as a prospect, though he had good potential, that has definitely fallen off though
