Description
These trades are simply what I think would be a great turnout for CBJ at the trade deadline.

Players like Laine, Nyquist (I.e. someone who isn’t an expiring UFA) could also occur around the draft.

Looking for constructive feedback, not ****posting. Thanks!
Transactions
1.
CBJ
  1. Poulin, Samuel
  2. Zucker, Jason
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2022 (PIT)
Détails additionnels:
I see Poulin often as PIT’s Top Prospect. Considering their system isn’t that deep, and Poulin can be kept in the AHL for another year or two to develop, I prefer him to POJ. Plus, CBJ don’t really need more LD prospects.
PIT
  1. Domi, Max (2 650 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2022 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
PIT gets a T6 F with a lot of grit, who would likely do well alongside Crosby/ Malkin. Zucker gets moved off the books, and CBJ roll the dice in him rebounding and being flipped.
2.
CBJ
  1. Holtz, Alexander
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (NJD)
Détails additionnels:
1st Rd pick is lottery protected. If not, slides to unprotected in 2024.
NJD
  1. Foudy, Liam
  2. Laine, Patrik
Détails additionnels:
I’ve seen some interest in Laine from a few NJ ACGM’s on this board. I feel like with Hischier and Hughes now being price-locked in long term, NJ would be in a good place to sign him for a few years. Laine could thrive alongside Hughes, a caliber-player Laine does not have in CBJ.

Foudy is a young, speedy F who has gotten lost in the shuffle for roster space with CBJ. He’s got 1st Rd pedigree, and has played well in the AHL, so could see him becoming a contributing M6 guy. I’d also considering swapping him for Bemstrom, if there is particular interest there.
3.
CBJ
  1. Koskinen, Mikko
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
Korpi gets moved, alongside Kukan. Both guys have been overtaken on the roster by now, and likely don’t have a future with CBJ. A 1st is likely too rich.
EDM
  1. Korpisalo, Joonas (1 400 000 $ retained)
  2. Kukan, Dean (800 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
I know, EDM fans. Korpi is the worst G ever and EDM would never do this. I see this trade happening too much to not think there is some fire to that smoke. At worst, EDM gets to shed salary/ cut payroll to allow for other TDL moves. Kukan gets thrown in as every playoff-hopeful’s most needed asset - D depth. He’s a steady guy who can chip in offensively on the 3rd pair. Would also consider replacing him with Carlsson, if you prefer someone younger and with a bit more control.
4.
CBJ
  1. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (BOS)
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
I’ve done some research, and a lot of journalists seem to point to BOS needing depth scoring. Gus is a great M6 option, a guy who, after a slow start to the season, has been on a tear lately.
BOS
  1. Nyquist, Gustav (2 000 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (CBJ)
Détails additionnels:
The exact retention figure could change, but CBJ move Gus to open up roster spots, and also to give him a run at a cup.

CBJ pick up a 2nd, and a pick swap as a result.

I get it. The reason I went to this is that for all the ****ting on Laine I’ve seen, a few NJ ACGM’s have actually put together trades for him that I was interested in.

Foudy is honestly a throw-in. He could be replaced with Bemstrom. Both are players who I think haven’t been given a good shake with CBJ due to roster spots/injuries/ Torts, and have run out of time to be waivers exempt. IMO, give them a good chance to turn into something with another organization.

Of course. It’s “ideal,” not “realistic.”

Then again, I can’t predict ****. We got 1sts out of the shell of Nick Foligno and David Savard last year, so who knows 🤷‍♂️

just my opinion, but if EDM is trading for Korpisalo, i would have to imagine the price being lower than a 2nd

I think holtz is a tough ask. I'd try for Mercer instead.

I don't believe Laine is a good fit for New Jersey.
I think we'd say thanks, but no thanks.

Mercer has just as much value as Holtz, if not more. Good two-way player, plays center.
Also, Devils fans will never want to move him because is one of the more fun players to watch. Can put on a good show.

The Pens trade is awful.

1) Domi has no more value than Zucker at this point. Domi is terrible defensively and Zucker is a far better 200ft player.
2) The only advantage is that Domi is a rental and the pens are free and clear, but it's not worth a 1st round pick to do that. If Zucker had like three or more years left? Sure.
3) Poulin is not the Pens top prospect.

Pens decline hard. Your best option is Zucker for Domi straight up. The Pens are not desperate to move Zucker this year and next year being his last year, he'll be much easier to move without having to give up whacky stuff like that.

I agree he's probably as valuable but maybe with Hughes and Hischier signed long term they might be able to weasel into Mercer. If I was Columbus I'd chase the center.

As mentioned above ^ ^ - Nyquist is just piling on more similar guys/"surplus of the same player type" to the popcorn/pressbox and at the over-expense of 2 x 2nd's (overpay).

I'm not completely opposed to that Pens trade, but Burke and Hextall have made it abundantly clear they're not trading 1sts and prospects

Gotta love living at the nexus between “I’m not completely opposed” and “it’s awful.”

Who is PIT’s top prospect?

No consensus on that. Logic would suggest it's Poulin but he's been underwhelming in the AHL.

It could be any one of Poulin, Puustinen, and POJ.

Well, my fellow pens' fan is clearly unfamiliar with Domi. He had one crazy year and he's been mediocre since.

Right now the Pens best prospect is either Drew O'Connor or Valtteri Puustinen.
