Petry probably wants to go to the US, but the need/fit makes too much sense for EDM.

Petry I doubt has anywhere near that much value. His contract sucks and he has been awful this season

EF sais teams will pay because they saw what he did last year. And tbh, I think getting out of MTL would help

Lebrun had a conversation with a western conference GM and the GM told him that Petry's value didn't change because of the train wreck happening this year in Montreal. It's nice to hear that opposite to anyone here GMs actually show no recency bias after the guy been an offensive stud for four straight year.

He's 34 years old and he has a big contract for 3 more years after this one. Edmonton doesn't need another aging, expensive player on their roster.

Read OPs description up there bud, yes he's 34 with three more years but trying to go all in before McJesus and Drai say 'See ya' and leave this tire fire could be a good idea, just my 2c.

So going all in means having albatross contracts on the books? LOL, that'll guarantee McDavid and Draisaitl leave in free agency.

Both these trades are terrible value for Edmonton. Easy pass.

Personally don't see a great fit for Petry with EDM with his contract and age. And that Kuemper contract is bound to age poorly as well, he simply can't stay healthy enough to justify that term and AAV imo

Lol as already mentioned, trade for a player who looks to be on the decline with a big contract makes no sense. A 1st, 2nd good prospect and a dman 1 year removed from leading all dmen in points for an older dman who’s at the age where most dmen tend to decline.

You don’t just make a move for the sake of it because “McDavid and Draisaitl are going to leave”. A 1st, 2nd and good prospect could get you a legitimate scoring winger, 3C or be put towards a starting goalie.

We already made a bonehead move for Keith at full salary. Having $12M tied up between Keith and Petry is just bad

6M$ for a guy that would become your first pairing defender isn't what I'd call an albatros contract. You'll tell me Petry shucks will just proves my point that GMs are able to understand the difference between a bad team and a bad player, recency bias aside Petry's been a great player for us over the past four years. He isn't a heavy hitter nor fight and has barely been injured through this point in his career so his age isn't a concern to me if I'm a GM.

Even OP says he isn't sure about the value, I'm just saying that Edmonton guys are over reacting about this possibility (Even doe it won't happen cause Petry wanted out of there and will be traded to an American team) of him being moved to Edmonton.

I have no doubt Petry provided good value for the Canadiens over the past for years, but that's largely irrelevant. I'm concerned about the value he'll bring over the remainder of the contract, and due to his age I don't see that as a good bet.
