Top five worst in terms of what? Explain to me how only 5 of those players I listed above have better contracts than Gallagher.
You're not grasping even the essence of the concept I'm trying to discuss with you here.
Gallagher has five years left on his contract at an average cost (not cap hit) of $6.8 million per year.
Van Riemsdyk has one year left and is owed $5 million.
Benn has three years left on his deal and is owed $19.5 million -- less than Gallagher's average annual compensation, and less expensive overall to the team.
Hayes has four years left on his contract and is owed $24.5 million -- again, less than Gallagher's average annual compensation, and less expensive overall to the team.
Lee has four years left on his contract and is owed $25.15 million -- again, less than Gallagher's average annual compensation, and less expensive overall to the team.
Even the compensation due Vlasic, who is a defenseman and therefore not expected to have the offensive impact as a "power forward," is slightly less annually than Gallagher's. And no one in his right mind is going to claim that Vlasic's trade value is anywhere close to the trade value most Habs fans ascribe to Gallagher.
Skinner's contract is admittedly worse -- by quite a bit -- than Gallagher's, but then again, he's having a much better year than Gallagher.
