Switch the 2nd to a 1st, or switch it for sasmokevich or denisenko
Habs won't get any of these prospects in the Chiarot trade because Denisenko/Samoskevich/etc were all higher 1st rounders whose value has continued to increase or at the very least stayed the same. Saying a 1st round pick is too ambiguous. Connor McDavid was a 1st round pick, can the Habs get him? Kaiden Guhle was a 1st rounder, could the Habs get that kind of player? So just saying Chiarot is worth a 1st rounder is too ambiguous. Need to be more specific. Its a
LATE 1st round pick and its probably a pick, not a prospect.
A 1st round pick" in value does not mean any prospect taken in the 1st round previously and when Friedman/Dreger/etc say 1st round pick, it is mostly implied that it will be a team that is projected to finish high in the standings. So Chiarots value is somewhere along the lines of the 28-32nd OV pick in this years draft. If that team just happens to suck and go out in the first round, thats just gravy for the Habs but that doesn't mean Chiarot is now worth the 18 OV pick. He's still only worth the very late 1st. (That's also assuming the Habs retain 50% which is a prerequisite to any Chiarot trade)
The Savard trade is the template here guys, whether you think Chiarot is better or not. Late 1st and a 3rd/4th. Maybe if there is enough overbidding by teams a lesser prospect will be lumped in also.
The best return the Habs will get will be trading Chiarot to the team that has the least chance at going far in the playoffs.
