Offseason Flat Cap

Description
No assumptions about the draft pick
The priority is to get roster spots filled, get more picks/prospects, and maybe take on a couple more bad contracts
Do the same thing as last offseason to acquire Fowler, Dadonov, Connoly, Ceci, Martin, and Bryan Little (he might not play again)
Ghost won't resign so ship him to Anaheim for a nice return
We now have an arguably better roster, more draft capital, and at this point we're basically playing NHL22
Also I'm keeping Cychurn in because defencemen like him aren't easy to find and I'm unsure about the return he'd get

Is Bryan Little ever going to play again? I thought he was injured for the rest of his career. Also, Ceci won’t be the one to go. He has been decent in my opinion… it will be Barrie.

Ceci isn't a cap dump for Edmonton at all at this point, he's been one of their most consistent defencemen all year

Yeah, Little will be LTIR for the remainder of his career, no need for Winnipeg to deal a 1st whatsoever.. As for the Ceci/Barrie debate, I'd debate that Ceci would be a better option for a Cap Dump over Barrie, but, too many people don't understand what great locker room guys can do for teams, plus he's a far better PP option than Bouchard has been at this point.. I'd hold on to Barrie until this deal is done, but 100% understand where you're coming from, just wish Holland didn't screw up the cap this past offseason to begin with...

Lost in all of this discussion about value is Cam's four-team trade list. There isn't enough money in the world for someone to bet me that Arizona isn't on it.

Yah hopefully Holland can fix this. I rather move Barrie, as I believe Bouchard is a better defence man than he is, but we will have to see. We need to do something, so anything that we do, will probably help. I don’t mind Barrie, and Ceci, but I rather Cecis 2-way game, as we need guys that have a good 2-way game. Also, the oilers have been wanting Ceci for a while, so I don’t see Holland trading him any time soon.

See, I feel like Barrie's defensive game is severely underrated, especially since joining Edmonton, I think if he played with Darnell like he did majority of last season he'd be a steal at the cap hit he's at right now(still feel this way even now), which would ultimately make Ceci's cap hit expendable, cause I agree, Bouchard is ready for Top 4 mins and is basically turning into a better defensive, but not quite there offensively version of Barrie, so if you slot him in the 2nd pairing with Keith think that helps grow his game more rather than thrust him into the top pairing minutes with Nurse, kid still needs to learn/grow, why not be it in a pairing with a future Hall of Famer.. I don't mind Ceci whatsoever, I just feel he's slightly overpaid and should be in a bottom pairing role more so than Barrie.. But, I do see why everybody points the finger at Barrie and completely understand why he would be looked at as trade bait/cap relief...

I thought Little q]was just out for the season. Dang, it's a shame he has to retire, he had a good player on a lot of bad teams and I'm glad he got to go on a deep run before retireing.

I think Barrie has more value as a PP QB. Ceci is a guy who plays best in sheltered minutes and is paid too much for it. Plus the extra year doesn't help his case

Admittedly I've watched more Yotes games than Ducks games this year so I might have some bias. I did a thread on the Ducks in the same situation but I think that Ghost could work in Anaheim. Maybe it's just the steep contract but I feel like most people forget that Fowler is still a solid defenceman (I've been guilty of this a couple of times). I still stand by the move as it's good for the Yotes but it might not go down this way in real life

True, but Barrie is a offensive defence men. In my opinion, Bouchard is better, and is ready to take over Barrie’s role. I would trade Barrie, and try and find a good defensive defence man, or a 2-way defence man. Ceci is overpaid, but it looks like we have to live with that, especially since the oilers, and Holland has been wanting Ceci for years. If you do some past digging like i have once upon a time, oilers offered Taylor Hall to three teams. New Jersey for Adam Larsson, Buffalo for Rasmus Ristolainen, and Ottawa for Cody Ceci. At course New Jersey accepted, but that’s the three defence men the oilers really wanted, but now they have one.

Chareli was the Taylor Hall trade but here's the difference. Barrie is the QB until Bouchard is ready and he has 1 less year on his contract so I think Ceci is the cap dump, Barrie is a trade chip for to get a defensive defenceman. You can find another Ceci for a cheaper deal on the free-agent market. That's why I traded him (although you do raise some good points about the Oilers D prospects)

It makes sense, and I see what you are saying, but I just disagree. I me personally, I would trade Barrie first, then see if they can move Ceci. However, I see Holland keeping Ceci. I think we are stuck with him for the rest of his contract. It will be interesting to see what he does, and you do put up some good points, I just think it will be the other way around.
