A lot of people seem to think this team has completely turned it around after the last 6 games, I’m not convinced.

Stats show the team still has a very low probability of making the playoffs, and it’s not uncommon for teams to preform well for a short duration after a coaching change.

I’m not saying this team won’t be improved going forward, I think they were underperforming based on the other roster they had, but they are no where near being a contender.

I don’t feel these trades move then into contender status and therefore the team would just be trading future assets, which they can’t afford, to possibly make the playoffs and be eliminated shortly thereafter. Not moves I would make.

You would seriously trade the sixth overall pick in this year's draft for Gallagher and his awful contract plus two rentals? Seriously?!? Even if the Canucks were to make the playoffs, you'd be happy with that deal?

Bonino is not worth a 2nd. a 4th maybe but his numbers are way down this year and he is essentially a #4 C and PK guy

Gallagher's contract is terrible, why would you give up a 1st for him?

I agree, these trades look pretty careless, but I'm pretty confident in this team's chances making the playoffs. They have always been better than their record indicated and their win streak under Boudreau does not look like a fluke by any means. Even if they aren't contenders yet, making an effective playoff push this season can be reason enough to be buyers at the deadline

I don't think these trades make the Canucks any better especially that gawd awful Montreal deal, even if the Canucks are looking like a playoff team closer to the TDL wasting their 1st on Gallagher would be risky and poor asset management.

The HBK line was fun but that was like 5 years ago, doubt they'd have the same kind of magic this many years later.. lol

I think both of you are spot on! they were not as bad as they seemed before Boudreau and they aren't as good as they have been since! truth is they are somewhere in the middle, but i personally feel it’s closer to who they are now vs who they were. 1-2 pieces could mean the difference between a 2nd round or not quite making it into the playoffs, still don’t waste real promising futures (top 5 prospects or any of your 1sts) pieces for rentals. the next GM has to undo what the last one did to your franchise. Vancouver should be patient and logical and wait for good trades to knock on their door rather than go out hunting and look desperate.

I agree with most of this, especially about the team not being ready to trade futures for rentals. I do however believe that Vancouver is ready to be having playoff aspirations, and Jim Benning was already undoing some of the mistakes that he made in the past (unloading Beagle, Eriksson, and Roussel) (Buying out Jake Virtanen), but the truth is Rutherford doesn't have that much untangling to do if any, he just needs to make the right types of trades and exchange the right pieces/assets. That's Rutherford's main job, and still a tall undertaking for sure though
