leafs cap situation is looking a little sussy

Description
A lot of these contracts are best-case-scenario too, so this is fairly optimistic even before factoring in the removal of ~$6mil. Not much room, maybe some more gets cleared out to get an extra forward on the roster, but it's a difficult task. Dubas has some work to do next offseason, that's for sure.

2 year deal for Sandin at a lower cap. Then long term deal in 2 years when Brodie and Muzzin both expire.

I doubt it's the same 7 dman, one or both of Holl and Dermott will be gone.

But, yeah no matter what route they go, it will be tight.

    Yes, pretty much.

I know hes only going to finish with 25-30pts, but if Kase stays healthy, he'll want more than 1.8mil
Engvall is a UFA and probably won;t return for 75% of what hes making now
Also, guys like simmonds, spezza, muzzin are kind of getting old quick

But the biggest issue, is whether the Leafs have a good season, otherwise theres no point in essentially bringing back (with the addition of 1 rookie) the exact same team.

Leafs have the Kase negotiations secret weapon (his best friend in the world apparently - Kampf under contract for another year).
Engvall is a RFA, but yes he's not likely returning at a discount. He'll likely be gone next season.
Muzzin has had a slow start. Spezza has been same Spezza this year. Simmonds actually looks better than he has in years. Apparently spent the summer with skating/skills coaches (I know all players say that every summer) but he's noticeably improved from last year.

Your last point is very valid, and is the most important factor.

Could also send a 2nd over to MTL and get Weber/Byron’s LTIR contract.

Yeah, that's not how LTIR works.

I agree with all of this. Sandin should be signing a Dermott 2 year contract @ $1.5 MIL

With the good play of Dermott this year allowing him to be a 4th -5th dman combined with his low contract and being signed an additional year should facilitate him being traded for some UFA playoff depth especially if Rubins can fill in as a 6th-7th dman.

I suspect Holl can be replaced by Liljegren next year allowing Holl to be traded for some bottom 6 forward depth like Tanner Jeannot, etc. Maybe send him back to Chicago for Strome.

I think that Campbell is going to get $5 - $5.5 MIL on this next contract.

A simple “no” would have sufficed.
