Gallagher imo is a fantastic player and has amazing leadership qualities. I think he would be a TJ Oshie type add where long term itll be bad but the next 3-4 years he'll be a 50-60 point guy that scores in the tough areas on the ice

basically the main reason i want him. Seems like the type of guy that will have an immediate positive impact on the locker room. Plus he plays a tough game. Thats always valuable to me

he's having a down year this year but Habs dont have nearly the talent at center the capitals do.....

I'm not big on trading Gallagher, but would enjoy seeing him reunited with Eller.

I am unfamiliar, has Mantha fallen out of favour in Washington? Gallagher gives 125% at all times and can score some dirty goals. Love him as a player, would hate to lose him, but Mantha is much younger and a bigger body. What gives?

Gallagher sure seems like a Capitals type of player. The second half of the contract probably won’t be pretty tho. Otherwise I would go for it, although I don’t think Mantha has had a real chance yet to show what he can do.

to be fair ... 4 years from now when this is "bad" that cap will have gone up and the Capitals will be rebuilding OR by some miracle we are still good some team will eat that for a 1st.

I think Gallaghers best years are behind him. You may get 1 good season out of him but is that really worth the caphit after that? Mantha still seems like the better player here

idk... thats very possible but Habs dont have the center depth the capitals do and if Gallagher can become a 50-60 point guy while adding his physical play i would love that and gladly make the MAntha trade

Definitely a benefit, especially for the first 3 years where Mantha's salary offsets his contract.
Not a lot of people realize that Gallagher has a positive impact on his linemates and can still contribute even from outside of the top 6.
There's also the need for the other team to devote a defender to him at almost all times because he just .. doesn't .. stop. That's one less person watching Ovechkin and Backstrom.

I mean him playing with Backstrom would be great... or have him play with Ovechkin and Kuzy.

I thought so too, but someone made a good point. The captain should have the respect of officials, and at least grudging respect from the other team. He's too much of a thorn in the side of too many people. He has the character, but he's too good at his job.

lowkey I would want Gally to be traded to a contender and win a cup... he deserves it so much
