Probably $6-7 mil. In this deal, the Leafs would have $11.7 mil in space (assuming a $82.5 mil cap), with 10 players to sign including Klingberg, Campbell, Sandin, and Liljegren.

If the leafs gave up all that for a Dman with 3 points 0 goals in 12 games Id start cheering for a new team

Not saying someone who pay a lot for Klingberg and I do think Klingberg will get back into form, but as of right now its a no from me

Dallas shouldn't trade Klingberg to Toronto unless Liljegren is a part of the return. Stars have 1 other NHL caliber RHD in their entire organization and that's Jani Hakanpaa. Only way I'm trading Klingberg is if I get Liljegren who at least fill his roster spot ASAP.

Leafs already tried this it was called Rielly + Barrie.

Doesn't make sense to sell the farm to go down that road again.

Reportedly Klingberg wants a 7-8 year deal at $62-66M total. So closer to 8 than 7.

Whoof. Doesn't surprise me, but I wouldn't wish that contract on to any team. 30+ year old, big money, big term. Nooooo thanks. FWIW, I'd do something like 5 year x $6.5-7 mil, or a long term, lower AAV contract, but that's the type of deal that absolutely screws a team long term.

Kling will play the season with the leafs, in the offseason he goes back to Dallas. Pure Rental.

Not really ideal but honestly for now he's good enough to earn at least the first 3-4 years of that contract.

The latter 3-4 years is what worries me the most.

The only good part of the trade from the Leafs view is getting rid of Ritchie. Is three points, minus eight in twelve games for Klingberg an improvement over Holl? Then to give up all those young assets?

why not, holl isnt great and is not a top 4 on a contending team, you have to give something to get something, dumping ritchie and holl for cap space, so you give up a prospect and a first for a solid right shot defender for the whole season, a full go for it season.

So Holl not top four on a contending team? He sure is, he's playing top four on a contending team. Klingberg is playing the four on a out of the playoffs team.
