Don't know why the Leafs consider it. No cap this year for 7th Dman, and no cap next year to resign Kubalik next season without restructure the roster.

Pare down the deal to Kubalik with 50% retained for Amirov and the 2023 1st or SDA and a 2022 1st and I think its good for both sides, but as palhal pointed out, you're just creating a weaker salary structure than the one they have now.

TML have so few mid level salaries, they cant really trade anybody for talented futures or younger guys unless they deal one of their big 4 or top 3 dmen.

@SilckWilly...Why would we give up Kubalik for a late 1st round pick? That would be a terrible deal for Chicago.

It all depends. I think Amirov having cost certainty and upside is a big deal for CHI. I'm not even sure TOR can keep Kubalik next year...which maybe to your point they can either offload Mrazek's contract for cap space or get picks back @ the end of the year since he's arb eligible, but Amirov is still a really nice piece to have.

I meant in the context of this trade, not just the 1st by itself, so like, a 1st, SDA, and a 3rd. Maybe with the 1st comes a little bit extra, but Im really excited for the 2023 draft, even if it is a little later.

Amirov has upside i agree and may...i stress the word "may:....reach Kubalik's level but Kubalik is already there and a proven entity so all the risk falls on Chicago in a 1 for 1 trade with limited upside as I don't see amirov being better then Kubalik or if so, not much better. I don't think Chicago touches it or at a minimum gets better offers from other teams. His production in the KHL is good, but isn't to the level that it screams we'll get a Kubalik or better.

When you go look at some of the trade comps out there. I just don't see it being much more than Amirov. Dadanov was on the skids and a much higher contract, but still had been a 70 points player. Sam Bennett got a 2nd and 2nd round prospect.

I don't see why the Hawks should move Kubalik. Amirov is crap shoot, picks are a crap shoot, and moving one of the best shots in the league and 2nd best goal scorer on a team that struggles to get goals for gambles to me is poor asset management.

Because were 2 - 9 - 2. Now, I'm all for waiting to see, but if we're still the 2nd to last team in the NHL...just get picks/prospects. We might get the shaft and have to send away the #3OA pick, but rip the band aid off and just move forward. Getting Amirov from TOR or Holloway from EDM or Morosov from Vegas can help.

There's no reason to take more on in volume. Kubs just turned 26 years old and has very little mileage on his skates. Would you trade Debrincat too?

Different people and different stories. If Kubs wants to sign a reasonable extension, I'm 100% willing to listen and him. Trading Kubs and getting Amirov means we'll have a $925k winger and whatever Kubs was going to sign for...could be for Hertl or you name it. As the years go by, we're learning more and more about Debrincat. I'd sign him to a long extension today. He's the one driving the plays. Kubalik is a good player, but he's a supporter and not THE driver of play. Again, if Kubalik wants to sign a team friendly extension I'm willing to listen. If he says he wants money...I think we need to get the best prospect we can.

I think Kubs is a key member of the team personally. I think without him, the team is noticeably worse. There's not many younger Hawks we can say that about. I just don't think you trade guys like that if it's for a gamble on a player that isn't projected to be a franchise player and conversely as such who knows what we get if not projected that high. I think we invest cap in guys who are proven and young and Kubs fits that bill. Now if he wants $8M of course not, but if he wants $5M we do it all day. This is like Saad as a example, different type of player being a two way strong on the puck guy, but a key part of the offense as well. Notice how much we've missed him as a key supporting player since his departure and still trying to fill his spot with Kubs and Toews. Kubs to me is very similar although for different on ice reasons. Amirov is nothing more then a gamble until he proves himself on NHL ice and there are plenty that this kind of gamble has backfired; Perlini, Borgstrom, arguably Strome, etc. Prospects often don't live up to their hype even if they make a career out of being an NHL player which is tbd with Amirov.

Want to move someone for cap savings and getting younger, move Toews and or Kane (easier said then done). They have 1 1/2 years left and on the backend of their careers; we can move either of those guys and get a Amirov type of prospect back easily and secure our top 6 wingers for years to come with Reichel, Amirov, Kubs, Cat if that is the strategy to save cap as you mentioned, but I don't get moving a 26 years old guy with only 137 games and 50 goals/90 points.
