Description
This year is likely Dubas' last chance to make a run in the playoffs and he is not afraid to trade high picks for rentals.

Montreal is missing the playoffs - Chariot (rental) traded for a mid-range defensive prospect who projects to be 4-6 (doesn't have to be Mac) and a 2nd round pick.

Domi (Rental) had a down year last year, Columbus will be missing the playoffs. I offered a top 6-9 versatile Center/Winger signed for another year. A younger Dman signed for another year who is undervalued in toronto. Value for Domi would depend on the time of year this trade happens and how he is performing but I think this a decent starting point

Jackets have too many top 6/9 winger and too many LHD already. Theres a logjam. They won't look for a deal like this imo

Chariot is not good.
Has been utterly terrible for MTL this year.
I will admit he was great against us in the playoffs, but I’m not sold on acquiring him.

Domi isn’t worth that much.

I like both moves.
Domi will fit really well with Marner.
Chariot adds toughness and size on the backend, as much as Leaf fans think he is terrible, he did pretty welll against them last year shutting down Matthews and Marner.

The post did a great job of shutting down Matthews not Chariot.

These are unnecessary moves. Domi can likely be had for a 2nd at this point, with retention. The rest is just throwing assets away

Domi isn't better than Kerfoot, and really if you want a playoff performer....keep Kerfoot. Not that I would trade for Chariot, but Holloway isn't a NHL prospect.

Agreed. I’d be willing to take on Dermott, but TML would need to take on a D or two. Maybe send Harrington and Carlsson their way, add a mid rounder or something to this. Carlsson still has team control, could be a cheap and useful bottom pairing guy for TML. Harrington is nothing more than an insurance policy with an expiring contract.

Keep Kerfoot.

If a hurt Foligno at the trade deadline cost a first rounder, you think a 50% retained salary on Domi would only cost a 2nd for the entire season?

It would be for cap space as well as a player that could likely perform in our top 6. Kerfoot does not get used very much in the top 6 and Ritchie has not looked like a good fit on that line so far. I doubt Kerfoot would have had as good of a playoff if Tavares hadn't gotten hurt and he wasn't moved up in the lineup. A center playing wing on the 3rd line for 3.5 mil doesn't seem like the best fit for the Leafs. We seem to have a surplus of 3rd/4th line players. Plus I feel like a Domi coming to the Leafs would give him an extra bump in performance for the season as well as it being a contract year and playing with M&M. But that is obviously a guess and a risk in this trade.

As for Holloway, even if he isnt an NHL'er, thats what the 2nd is for... Which is likely what he Chariot would cost at the deadline. If Montreal only wants the pick, we can definitely keep him. I would not be heart broken either way. I picked Chariot as he is a more proven and/or capable defenseman than a Dermott.

Maybe. But if he can play up into the Leafs top 6 situationally or for injuries, he probably pushes someone else down on the BJ depth chart. He might also be handy to have with an extra year term and reasonable cap hit when you have trouble re-signing Laine this summer

But what has Domi done to come even close to as valuable as Foligno? He isn't a veteran presence and hasn't been good for a few years in a row.

Kerfoot is not close to Domi. That’s very homer Leafs fan to think that

You say in this thread that Kerfoot is not close to being good as Domi, Domi is paying 3rd line winger and were scratching a top prospect when Domi was healthy. The Jackets do not need Kerfoot or his contract. If they want to keep Laine, they will not have issues keeping him as he is RFA and has been vocally supportive of staying in Columbus
