Description
Calgary sees their season battling for 4th in the division decide to pull the trigger on eichel around Christmas. This deal happens moments before as benson and the first rounder are included in eichel package.
Hawks I’m sorry hawks fans I’m predicting a really tough season where nothing goes right. Fleury respectfully declines on extending and states wants to hit open market for the first time. So they ship him off to Edmonton for a couple picks and a decent prospect. Retained money in this deal shouldn’t be an issue both clubs just maintain the cap hits for the rest of year no term involved.
Braun trade i thought it would be funny to send Marody back to Flyers but if they don’t want him back whatever replace with a different pick. It’s a classic Holland trade adding a veteran d at deadline. He can provide insurance on the right side and have Russell for left side insurance.
While this all in approach has a fairly significant amount of assets heading out for rentals but it’s worth it still have a significant amount of youth coming up and not dipping deep into next years picks.

Flames are not trading Gaudreau and a pick to a division rival for Yamamoto+Benson+what is allegedly the 32nd overall pick. That offer is trash.

Offer is trash 2 firsts and a second for a pending ufa? Umm I think that’s rather generous.

You're also taking that 2nd of Flames which renders Benson pointless - not that he's even worth the 2nd rounder anyway. And Yamamoto+1st is not equivalent to Gaudreau. Don't think you would've last year accepted a trade offer involving Dube+1st for RNH before he was re-signed. Gaudreau is a step up from that when it comes to value.

No wouldn’t have accepted that because signing nuge was a priority and was in a playoff spot.. If Calgary wants to sign Jonny so be it work out a deal with him and have back in a flames jersey to start next year there is no commitment being offered to Jonny by Edmonton strictly a rental. Don’t even care if the agent and team continue extension talks while he’s playing.

Well I don’t think the d is all that bad it’s certainly not a strength to the team but solid goaltending and very deep productive forward group who also has strong two way players to help the d. Foegele Ryan Hyman jp nuge shore can all provide the d with serous support. Should be fine for a deep run and once your in anything can happen.

Well that’s a productive statement. Maybe a little insight to who’s soo bad next time. Nurse is a solid number one capable of insane amount of ice time. Barrie lead all d in points last year and was pretty solid defensively last years playoffs. Bouchard has been showing any concerns of him defensively are unwarranted as he’s been killing penalties already. Keith and ceci just joined the team and have been looking better with each game as they get use to the structure. The only guy could have concerns about health is Russell who is resting in press box.

Do we really need paragraphs as to why the oilers defence is bad? They have a bunch of bad defenders, thats pretty much it. One of the worst defensive cores in the nhl for years and they made it even worse by adding ceci and keith and getting rid of bear.

I wouldn't trade Yamamoto straight across for Gaudreau, who is a perennial playoff underperformer. Oiler need playoff studs.

Jonny has underperformed in past playoffs with the expectation on providing primary scoring. With this deal he comes in to help complement jp. With most of the focus being on Leon and mcdavid that should open them up easier match ups to provide secondary scoring.

Too generous IMO. I don't think Gaudreau is worth that. Besides, he tends to disappear in the playoffs, so I'd find a more substantial player to rent. Filip Forsberg, for instance.

Not sure what you expect to get for him at the trade deadline; but it won't be as good as Yams, a 1st and Benson. You are right though; Gaudreau probably declines so he doesn't have to participate in the playoffs.

To be fair nearly half that production from yam was catching lightening in bottle. He needs to find a way to be more consistent.

No i didnt, he had a great rookie season of like 25 games being carried by Draisaitl. Dube could uave put up those points in that scenario. Last year was more realistic of what he is. Gaudreau will probably have double Yams points this year

Mostly due to powerplay time I reckon. But the fact that Gaudreau is a $6.75M UFA and Yamamoto is a $1.175M RFA means that Yamamoto has more value - especially since Edmonton just threw over $88M at LW's in the offseason.

That is such bass ackwards logic. Gaudreau is marginally the better player and you think Yamamoto has more trade value? Ok Oilers can keep their undersized winger and Flames will do the same
