No, thanks, we'll struggle with Gibson for the next six years while you guys have the fun of trying to sign a free-agent #1 next summer after another early playoff exit this year. After all, one of your most vocal Oiler cohorts says that Gibson hasn't been elite for years and is no better than Koskinen.

trading a 1st in any goalie trade is always gonna be a no from me lol. They are just far too random.

Over the past 2 seasons Koskinen has .909 sv%, -0.11 GSAA, and -5.19 GSAx. While Gibson has .904 sv%, -14.01 GSAA, and -13.86 GSAx.

Paying all that for a downgrade seems pretty useless.

We will at least make the playoffs have fun at the bottom of the league. Of Course Gibson is worth more and is an elite top 5 goalie in the league. Also the only teams in the west that we would have no chance against in the west would be Vegas, Colorado and that’s bout it

Did you look at last year's statistics?

Here's a statistic you can compute all by yourself: percentage of a team's wins.

Except he isn't. Look at his past 2.5 seasons, he had injuries in 2018-19 that he has never recovered from.

All that tells you is how strong his partner is. Gibson is a below average goalie with a worse partner, so Gibson gets a higher percentage of the wins. Koskinen is an average goalie with a stronger partner.

Percentage of team wins tells you NOTHING about how good a goalie is compared to the rest of the league, only compared to his teammates.

Lmaooooo. Koskinen a strong goalie 😂😂😂

Mikko Koskinen stats.
2010-11 - NYI - 4 gp, .873 sv%, 4.33 gaa
2018-19 - EDM - 55 gp, .906 sv%, 2.93 gaa
2019-20 - EDM - 36 gp, .917 sv%, 2.75 gaa
2020-21 - EDM - 28 gp, .899 sv%, 3.17 gaa
Career - EDM - 119 gp, .908 sv%, 2.92 gaa
Career - 123 gp, .907 sv%, 2.97 gaa

That screams ok backup at best. Calling him a strong goalie is either delusional or misinformation

If Oilers had a goalie somewhat like Toronto, with their offenses they would be true cup contenders. Smith is a top goalie, with Koskinen a true backup os funny. Smith is what 40 or 41, those two will not carry Oilers to a playoff series win or the cup. Gibson has played on a young and rebuilding club with half of the fire power that Edmonton has right now.

And saying nothing of value is coming North, is not true, if Oilers had Gibson at least that gives them a chance. And dumping a average goalie, a cap dump and a 1st is not getting what was proposed.

Getzlaf's last two years were better than Kassian's, and by the terms of this post the Oilers are getting him at less than half price.

Gibson's last two years were better than Koskinen's, and the Oilers would be getting 6 years of him, not having to go out and get another goalie next summer.

Saying "nothing of value is coming north" just shows how hopelessly incapable of being honest this guy is.

One can make the argument that Gibson has not played up to his standards the past two years, and to a point I can agree. But the unreasoning animosity that infects every single post is utterly mysterious.

Gibson isn't an upgrade on Koskinen though. I get that nobody watches Anaheim play anymore, but the past few years he's been below average. As I pointed out earlier, he had injury issues in 2018-19 and hasn't been the same since. At this point he hasn't been worth his salary for at least the past 2 seasons, trading for him would be making a HUGE bet that he can recover to pre-2019 form when he hasn't demonstrated that ability for 2.5 years now. If you lose that bet, you lose big - having jhust spent assets to acquire a below average goalie who is owed $6.4M for the next 6 years.

16-17: .924
17-18: .926
1st half 18-19: .924
2nd half 18-19: .906 - below average
19-20: .904 - below average
20-21: .903 - below average

I accept the criticism for tagging along with the "strong" goalie characterization. You didn't say this in this thread and I have absolutely no recollection of your hinting that in any other thread.

The point @UBS_ARENA made remains unchallenged, not merely disproven: Koskinen is no more than a backup with little NHL experience and there is a world of difference between him and John Gibson, which is a reality you still refuse to accept, and which you try to dispute by citing essentially irrelevant statistics. And that's not even beginning to take into account the ramifications of Gibson's 6-year term and Koskinen's pending UFA status.
