I don't believe the Habs would be on Hertl's 3 team trade list. Not knocking the Habs I believe most players prefer to stay in the US rather than play in Canada, especially nowadays.

The leafs paid more for 11 games and 5 points of Nick Foligno. This is horrendous for us.

Hertl is a rental. One year then UFA.
KK can sign an extension Jan 1st at a new cap hit.
RFAs have more value than UFAs.
Hertl is a better player than KK.
Remains to be seen who has more value in the trade/offer sheet market. My guess is Hertl, but I doubt it’s by much.

Cuz Hertl probably wouldn’t waive his NTC to go to Carolina. As Dougie Hamilton showed us, even New Jersey is preferable to Carolina for some UFAs. Dundon is a fool. A rich fool, yes, but still a fool, nonetheless.

Horrendous is when you let quality players leave as a UFA for nothing. If the Sharks are being honest with themselves, they’re not winning much of anything this year.

Hertl has a 3 team no trade. It basically means he’s picking his destination. He can sign an extension today. And the Habs have cap space and a hole at center with excellent wingers up and down the lineup on all 4 lines.
