I’m sorry but if you think that Marc Staal is still a viable top-4 option for a playoff team you are sadly mistaken

STAAL why

The Detroit trade makes no sense. Staal has a NMC for a reason and Detroit doesn't want Sanford.

He's a defensive defenseman, not supposed to be a flashy move. Need a guy to pair with Parayko for a shutdown role. Krug & Scandella are not getting it done in that regard. They're looking for an experienced dman, which is why they've been linked to Chara and why I think this makes sense.

Unless Detroit is planning on resigning him or making a playoff push, I'd be shocked if he wasn't moved considering he's a UFA after this year. Would assume he'd waive to go to a playoff team.

Marc Staal has a NMC for a reason, He doesn't want to uproot his family and he's already pretty much said that he wants to stay with Detroit for the season. So he wont waive it.

He technically didn’t waive it as there was a loophole in his contract. Yzerman briefly talked about it during the trade press conference.

1- What does that have to do with understanding that Staal is definitely not the answer.
