I don't think Sakic would do that trade unless he was in desperate need of capspace with another trade for a top 6 forward lined up. Compher isn't amazing and is probably a bit overpaid but he's still functional at 3RW.

There is no way it would cost us that much to move Koskinen. Tyler Johnson got traded along with a second. It’s one year of Koskinen, and Johnson has 3 years. It would be a third at most in my opinion.

I think Tyler Johnson - with a couple rings, 4x20+ goal seasons - has more value than Koskinen's at this point. Koskinen is 33, coming off a season with third string stats. The analogy doesn't hold up

Eh, maybe, but Koskinen is still a decent backup at just one year, and Johnson has 3. It wouldn’t cost that much to dump him in my opinion.

Fair. But still a lot of maybes in his stats.

I think Koskinen would be gone if it only cost a 3rd to move him. The issue now is there isn't really anyone available that is better than koskinen and to trade for a goalie you have to send a goalie back.

Not necessary…. there is Anton Khudobin, and they don’t need a goalie back. For most, yes, but for some, no. There are plenty that we can get if we look, and want to pay the price. Semyon Varlamov, Elvis Merzlikins, Anton Khudobin etc. I would personally love to get Khudobin if we can dump Koskinen, and I think Dallas would trade him to us.

Fair. But still a lot of maybes in his stats.

At the beginning of this past season Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant the that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.

With that in mind, I took a look at his last 2 seasons combined, but I pulled those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances: his save percentage was .916. Last season alone, without those January games, Koskinen still posted a .910, which was 28th of 64 goalies to play at least 10 games in that stretch (Feb 7 to May 15).

Other than the first 12 games this year when Koskinen was run into the ground, he was better than Khudobin. I'm not sure its a good idea to move Koskinen and bring in Khudobin, especially if it's going to cost more draft capital.

Fair enough. I just believe that Khudobin is better in the long run, and I would love to have a Khudobin, Smith tandem at the start of next season. I personally think Khudobin is better, but that could be just me.
