No way Ottawa moves him. He's an excellent DFD, he fits in their long term plans age wise, and they have no NHL ready depth of RHD.

Using the Brenden Dillon and Justin Braun trades as precedent, I think a 2nd and a 3rd would be fair.

However, we value Zub and want him to be an Ottawa Senator.

So, in order to take him from us, it would need to be two seconds at a minimum because other teams would be interested.

    Why does he interest you?

He has decent foot speed, good first pass and he plays physical. At 2.5 he also fits PIT's cap without much finagling. He's at best gonna be a reach 2nd pair, system pending, but he's what PIT needs.

You actually downgraded him for me. I had a 2022 PIT 1st and Poulin for Zub and 3rd from OTT.

I think you are lowballing Zub's value. Only 25. One of the few very good RH defensive dmen. Only making 2.5M. Had pretty good defensive stats for having to go against two high powered offensive teams 19 times last year in Oilers and Leafs. I feel like he has more value then Dillion currently. Felt like once Zub got comfortable in the NHL and was getting more minutes the Sens got much better.

I think he greatly lowballed his own player there. Young defensive RHD have great value imo.

A 25 year old Defensive RHD with term and a reasonable cap hit.

Alec Martinez, Devon Toews and Brenden Dillon were also traded for two seconds.

This is all moot because we have no intention of trading Zub unless another team goes crazy and pays something like what Buffalo got for Ristolainen.

Zub is from the Russian Far East, a long ways away from Ottawa.

Once his contract expires in two years, he might want to go home to play in the KHL.

That timeline might be before Ottawa becomes a playoff contender.

And whichever team acquires might only have him for a year or less.

If you think I lowball my own players, that's because I'm one of the few people on this site that tries to give an honest appraisal of my own players.

I'd be more concerned about the vast majority of people on this site that think their 2nd pairing defencemen are worth 1st round picks.

At the end of the day, some players on one NHL team are no different in value compared to players on other teams.

That's just the way it is.

You learn which fans to ignore pretty quickly here. I've got him on ignore because of some of the crap he posts.

I agree with @Claesson4Norris that Zub isn't likely to be traded. he fits Ottawa's team and budget too well to trade. He's not untouchable, just that you have to overpay for the value he currently brings. He's a player that won't get press, but is an important part of this teams defence. I compare him to Cernak in value. Cernak is not the main guy in TB, but try to trade for him and see the TBL fan reactions.

i dont think zubs true value is anything insane but the sens should value him more than they would get for him in a trade. Unbelievable underlying numbers for a 25 year old rookie and completely stabilized our blueline when he stepped in this year. He probably caps out as a good 3 or really good #4 dman but for a team lacking at RD as much as we are and with wanting to make the playoff it should take a pretty good amount to get the sens to part with him
