Please no Duncan Keith

Description
I read reports that Chicago is trying to sign both Jones brothers. It definitely needs a goalie. As bad as Koskinen played at times last year, he still had a .917 save percentage last year. So maybe Holland dumps some bad contracts in Koskinen and Kassian and gives up a promising prospect who is particularly valuable to Chicago's plans and we take on the poison pill that is 38 year old Duncan Keith and his brutal contract.

Bro, We are keeping Marody for sure. Marody has been a scoring machine in the AHL and him and Benson make a deadly duo in the AHL. Can be very useful in the NHL.

Sorry bud, but Holland is gonna overpay for Duncan Keith and the EDM media is gonna eat it up. So gross.

I'm so on the fence about this entire Keith thing. I'd hate so see Jones leave and I wouldn't touch Keiths contract without getting rid of Neal. For me it's either Neal+x vs. Keith (x = picks) or nothing. But man, I don't know. So scared that Holland is going to do something stupid.

If I know Ken Holland, he'll trade for Keith, then give him an extension with a full NMC

Says terrible contract in description, but doesn't realize his salary is $1.8M per year. AND, also puts him in the 2nd pair... sounds right...

Sorry but I do not think Chicago has much say in the matter at the point at which Keith asked for a trade to Western Canada. Who is going to eat that cap hit?

I think "cap hit" is really the issue. Salary would only matter if Daryl Katz was broke and it mattered. Edmonton is a very lucrative team. 2nd Pairing in Edmonton does not matter much because Darnell Nurse is a minute horse. Keith would play less than 18 minutes a night on the second pairing on this team.

Me too. I am just going off the reports saying that Chicago wants to open up lots of cap space to sign Seth Jones or someone like that. That seems unrealistic to me honestly. To me, the more likely scenario is that Chicago takes back some salary, albeit not as much as it loses. I honestly do not care so much about Jones because I am so bullish on the guys coming up behind him like Broberg and Samorukov.

Holland had to overpay people in Detroit to keep the Wings' playoff streak alive. In Edmonton he's been very, very cautious about term and cap hit, so this Duncan Keith rumor has me scratching my head. That said, it terrifies me as well.

RIGHT???!!! I do not see why Holland does not give Benson and Marody a season in the NHL instead of signing players from Europe like Haas and Nygard . . . I just want Marody to get a chance somewhere if they are not going to use him in Edmonton. Philly seems like a great team for letting rookies play big roles.

I'm just one person, but I do believe the Hawks have ALOT of options. Let's say Duncan Keith goes ballistic. He won't because that's not who he is, but let's pretend. What does Stan do?

Keith: Stan, I'm a 3x Cup Winner, 2x Norris Winner, and Conn Smythe Winner. I've paid my dues...send me where I want to go.
Bowman: Get in line Duncan. I've got 3 of those on this team...except I see your Norris and raise you a Hart. The other two want to be here and I owe it to those two to create the best possible team I can.
Keith: ok, where do we go from here. I still want to go to the Pac NW.
Bowman: Here are the options as I see them. A.) You get your agent to work on Holland. I've done what I can. The Blackhawks as an organization don't exist to help out the Oilers. B.) While your agent is doing that...you waive your NMC to go to Seattle. If you really just want to get closer to your kids...you'll waive. C.) You play for the Blackhawks. We want to keep you and have you retire as a Blackhawk. I understnad this doesn't get you closer to the Pac NW, but at least we want you. D.) Don't show up anymore. This is NOT our preferred option, but we'll terminate your contract like STL did with Patrick Berglund and you can go the Pac NW.

Chicago could always like... Not trade Keith. The hawks aren't going to put themselves in a worse position just to accommodate Keith’s wishes.

A tad bit dramatic but I do like what you have said. Chicago is completely justified in keeping Keith… if we can accommodate a trade that is beneficial for all parties then great, but if not we don’t have to go out of our way to make anything happen.

There is no way Edmonton makes this move without moving a ton of money the other way right? Edmonton has substantial leverage.

100% agree. Benson/McCleod/Marody was the top line in the AHL and they are all ready to play in the NHL on a 3rd or 4th line. But for whatever reason, Benson and Marody keep getting snubbed. I guess it is that Benson and Marody do not have blazing speed or size, which is what Holland wants. Go figure.

On Cap Friendly, it is all numbers like cap dollars and stats. But there is a human element to the game too. His children are in the Okanagan and he misses his children. Why would you expect Duncan Keith to give it 110% for Chicago after you did not accommodate his reasonable request?
