Description
This is not necessarily what I want to happen but there have been reports that COL is interested in Jones so I thought I would give my take on what a reasonable trade for him would be. Signing him long term doesnt really make sense with Makar already as the #1 D and with a ton of RHD prospects in the system already (Timmins, Barron, Helleson). Plus cap-wise it wouldnt work long term. The only way it makes sense to me is as a rental with 50% retained, but even with this COL would have to sacrifice forward depth (wouldnt be able to afford Saad) to make this move unless they moved or bought out EJ.

In terms of actual trade value I wouldnt give up much more than Compher+Kaut+1st for Jones with 50% retained, especially since theres basically no chance that COL would extend him. Maybe CBJ can get a better offer from PHI with a Jones extension but if not then I think this is decent value as a rental

yeah it doesn't make much sense for a rental unless its at the deadline and johnson is on IR again come playoffs. But the d looks unreal with him in it

im not sold on that idea pushed by Lebrun....Avs are so tight lipped of their trade plans or offseason moves.

For him to say he thinks the Avs will go all in with a rental trade for jones, taht seems suspicious to me. Someone is pushing that narrative and I dont see it being the Avs front office having leaks about wanting Jones. You never hear about who they are interested in trades.

Could it happen...sure. anythign can happen. Just would find it surprising that the re having trade leaks now

for 1 year you arent getting either of those guys. Maybe ask for more from PHI if Jones comes with an extension

Agreed, I think its more likely the Avs stay the course and try to keep their guys but I just wanted to see what a Jones rental move might look like

If EJ is done....and they lose Graves in the XD....maybe? But I dont see any big moves on the D Core until post XD, so many variables still in play

Jones has been in a steady decline and is actually a below average player now. The best part of his game is the power play and he would never see the ice there with the Avs behind Makar and Girard.

The 1st rounder by itself is an overpay.

I think by acquiring him COL would be hoping he would return to his old form in a better system. The upside makes him worth this package imo

Youre right he hasn't been great recently though
