So you would consider $7M in capspace as the only "asset" left over 1 year after trading a perennial 90pt 24 yo after a win for the Leafs?

Well it's a toss up say if the Leafs/Flames do that trade and then the Tkachuk doesn't want to return to Toronto the following year yes then the Cap would be an asset but If Tkachuk liked the team and wanted to stick around we'd get a Skilled Grinder in our top 6 who I believe could score 80+ points depending on his line mates?

Would u want Nylander ++ or also no?

i genuinely think that guy still wants gelilanas to come off the bench and play, its incredible the homer bias that lives with so many flames fans on this website.
    csick a aimé ceci.

Still carries through don't you think? Calgary didn't earn a playoff birth this year and the team just seemed disjointed? Alot of the teammates weren't impressed by Chucky's antics throughout the.season maybe the feeling still reside in this team

If that was still an issue the reports wouldnt have stopped like they did. What O'Brien reported yesterday was completely baseless

Flames management (and Flames fans) should know Tkachuk is going to explore his UFA options in two years. Now I'm not saying the Flames should take this deal....but a trade is coming.
I like the trade as Leaf cause it gives the Leafs more cap room in the next two seasons, and then the Leafs have more cap room by not resigning the UFA Tkachuk. As I say this, I'm not really a big supporter of Tkachuk. Sure he's a good player but he gets more notoriety by his antics than his actually on ice production.

So $7M to overpay on 27-30 yo UFA players > 24/25 yo Mitch Marner?

Marner's overpaid and is redundant in Calgary. Flames dont need another small perimeter winger more than they need Tkachuk

Marner is 6’ and is certainly not a perimeter player.

    Tkachuk 7m 43 points $163k per point
    Marner 10.9m 67 points 163k per point

So tell me again how bad Marner’s contract is… not to mention that Tkachuk gets a pay raise to 9m after next season and then walks as a ufa when that expires.

Flames could certainly use a right hand winger.

cal loses a marner for Mathew trade very day of the week, marner is overpaid and mathew brings more to the game than marner does and makes him more valuable than marner.

Marner's not a perimeter player? What game are you watching, thats literally all he does.

I suggest you keep him if he's so good

He was horrible in the playoffs but he’s no perimeter player. I am completely fed up with Marners lack of heart. I don’t think it was in this acgm but one of the other dozen Marner for Tkachuk trades that I said I wouldn’t do it as a leafs fan.

For Calgary I like the deal. Marner might actually be able to get Monahan going. He will never do the things a 1C needs to but if you can get him scoring 40 goals it’s a start.

I’m no fan of the Tkachuk contract. He will be overpaid worse than Marner on his QO and will walk after it.

As for getting a 1c with Tkachuk… good luck. Maybe if you can add enough to get Eichel. To me that is the perfect fit.

Eichel is the only scenario where Calgary would be moving Tkachuk.

Well that all depends if management is smart enough to see the writing on the wall. Is this team a cup contender the next 2 years?

It doesn't really matter, they already commited to competing with Sutter, Muller, Markstrom, and Tanev. Tgey wont be rebuilding for at least 2 years

i don’t think taking on Marner or Eichel is a sign of a rebuild.

That would be silly. Certainly in no need of a rebuild with the best players in their prime.

Moving Tkachuk while he has high value is just good business sense. He won’t be going to the leafs but there are plenty of teams that would pay a decent price.
