Third overall selection in this year's draft = 2 first-round-pick values
Trevor Zegras = 2 first-round-pick values
Max Comtois = this year's leading scorer and our anticipated #1 LW for the next half-dozen seasons = more than one first-round-pick value
Troy Terry = anticipated to be one of our two middle-6 RWs for several seasons = a little less than one first-round-pick value
Adam Henrique = middle-6 center to fill in the hole left by Eichel's departure and whose cap hit is necessary to effectuate any Eichel trade = a little less than one first-round-pick value

Now subtract out the combined value of Olofsson and the fourth (a little less than one first-round-pick value), and our net cost for Eichel is 6 first-round-pick values.

I lost my temper the other day and referred to Buffalo adherents who make suggestions like this with an inexcusable slur, but perhaps the esteemed colleague of yours who VERY gentlemanly called me out on it will now understand why.

Some of your points are valid, but in what world is Henrique with a little less than a first? You couldn’t give him away if you wanted to (he was placed on waivers and no one took him)

His value is that without him, you don't have a trade at all, due to the cap problem.

Now, you may not agree with my reasoning that this gives him value, but he did close out the year well and is near the top of our team's scoring list (which isn't saying much at all), but even if you discount him almost entirely, this is still 5 first-round pick values for Jack Eichel, and we simply can't afford that as a rebuilding team.

My conviction remains the same: Los Angeles has the surplus assets that make an Eichel trade possible, but not the real need; whether Anaheim has the need or not, we just don't have the surplus valuable assets that make such a trade reasonable for the Ducks.

I don’t disagree with your entire assessment. I would say Henrique is nowhere close to a first round pick value though. Dude was on waivers and could’ve been had for free anywhere last season and nobody took him. Maybe Buffalo should have then, but our esteemed pennypinching owner would never have spent the money. It’s not as though he has no value, but he is primarily the cap balancing portion of the trade. If Anaheim were offered a late round pick to be rid of his salary they would take it.

I would argue that Olofsson is a first round value player because he can pretty much be counted on for 20 goals a season as long as he remains healthy. And if you have a play making center with him he can score 30. Any player who can score 25 to 30 goals in the season is a first round caliber talent.

Anaheim is not an unrealistic landing spot for Jack Eichel. This trade is a little unbalanced, and I’m not quite sure how we would balance it. Jack Eichel is certainly worth at least a four first round pick value, he’s a potential Hart trophy candidate wherever he ends up next. If I were making the deal with Anaheim I would expect Zegras and the 2021 1st with either Comtrois or Rakell included, and Henrique to balance the cap.

Third overall selection in this year's draft = 2 first-round-pick values 1.5 1sts, perhaps in a stronger draft it would be worth more but there are zero stars
Trevor Zegras = 2 first-round-pick values 1.75 1sts
Max Comtois = this year's leading scorer and our anticipated #1 LW for the next half-dozen seasons = more than one first-round-pick value 1 1st, let's stick with a 1st as a little over it has multiple perceived values.
Troy Terry = anticipated to be one of our two middle-6 RWs for several seasons = a little less than one first-round-pick value Pretty much, he's either an early 2nd or late 1st in value
Adam Henrique = middle-6 center to fill in the hole left by Eichel's departure and whose cap hit is necessary to effectuate any Eichel trade = a little less than one first-round-pick value My primary bone to pick. He's either negative value or worth nigh nothing due to his contract.

Now subtract out the combined value of Olofsson and the fourth (a little less than one first-round-pick value) Olofsson and Comtois should be on similar value levels, and our net cost for Eichel is 6 first-round-pick values.

I'd disagree with some of your projections but it does seem a tad heavy.

Now let's re-add the totals
1.5 + 1.75 + 1 + 1 + 0 - 1 = 4.25

Personally I'd just plain drop Terry from the picture which drops it to 3.25 1sts. Even by your 3OA and Zegras values you end up with 4 1sts

So Zegras, Comtois, Henrique, and 3OA for Eichel, Olofsson, and a 4th.

Olofsson is a better scorer than Comtois at this time while Comtois is a bit more well rounded. Both are about the same in terms of production and talent.

Zegras and 3OA eat up the whole 4 1sts price tag while Henrique is a cap dump.

I refuse to accept discounting picks in this year's draft on the specious "theory" that there are no stars in it.

You make the point I was trying to make in a different way: Comtois and Olofsson are a distraction, inasmuch as you guys value the latter more than the former, whereas we're much happier to have the former than the latter. So this trade still boils down to Zegras, the third overall selection, Terry and Henrique for Eichel. That's not a sensible deal for a rebuilding team; it just turns Anaheim into Buffalo West.

I'm just glad this sparked the conversation it did. i think realistically the value we're looking at here is Zegras, 3OA, Comtois and Henrique is pretty close to market value for just Eichel. The 4th and Olofsson plus adding in Terry i saw as a way to give the Ducks a little more to work with, and alleviate the Sabres from their surplus of left handed forwards

Hence why I eliminated Terry.

Quick question would you rather trade your 2021 2nd and 2022 1st or 3OA?

Where Eichel is concerned, I'd MUCH rather trade the two picks than the third overall this year.
