Why would Toronto trade their #1D? Sure the playoffs have been disappointing, but they can’t exactly go into a full rebuild right now.

Leafs don't need to trade Reilly really, and I think teams around the league view him as a guy that could be a number one defensemen, so he would probably command a lot more

Are they a fit? Sure. Should they do it? No. With Zibs, Strome (Or another 2C), Kakko and Kravtsov likely getting raises, plus the mind blowing contract that Fox should get, all of the sudden you start getting really, really tight to the cap. Then Laffy is the following year. Rags just need to be patient and let their young players develop.

That said I honestly think Reilly would be a great fit on the Rangers

That’s all well and good but you’re also missing a few important details. Fox-ELC with many years left and much better. Reilly is a ufa after this season(rental). Now since we have Fox already we have 0 need for Reilly. So the fun part for you now is to find a team that needs a Reilly or someone who has the extra cap space and might resign him after. That being said, TOR might be the most desperate team for a guy like that so your GM keeps him. You clearly haven’t seen Fox play either if you think Reilly is better but that’s ok to be a homer.

1. The Rangers are not going to be competing for the cup next year, they’re just trying to make the playoffs, so they would go for depth rather than star power (like Rielly)

2. Rielly would probably get the same points as Fox if he got to play the Sabres 8 or 9 times this year too

3. The fact that you wouldn’t trade more than a 4th liner for a veteran defenceman who was top 15 in scoring for defenceman AND is very responsible in his own end shows me you don’t really know much about hockey outside the Rangers

1. Nailed it.. not adding someone like him until TDL if we are in the running. Finally a leaf fan with part of a brain.

2. Reilly was in the weakest division and on a PP with countless superstars making 10M+. 8 games against BUF = 8 games against OTT in all seriousness so that remark is absurd. How about you do yourself a solid and count how many points Fox got against BUF, then add up how many he got against NYI, WSH, BOS, PIT, PHI…smh.. great comparison though hahaha

3. It’s ZJ that we are high on, the pick and Rooney are all yours. As we both can agree we are coming out of a rebuild and aren’t looking for a 5M 3rd pairing rental for our roster… so ya, definitely not a lack of hockey knowledge coming from me haha. I watch 3 games a night when the season is on so that’s also watching 6 other teams play when NYR has they might off..

Ok, Ottawa actually did alright this year, surprisingly not finishing last in the weakest division, but you have to admit that Buffalo was just next level terrible and that helped pad Fox’s stats at least a little bit. Not to mention they played 3 of the top 4 worst defensive teams in the league this year

If you think that Rielly is a third pairing defenceman than you’re probably overvaluing your defencemen, he would be slotted into any top 4 in the league.

He’s a top 4 yes. But we wouldn’t demote our top 4 to bring in a rental. Does that make sense? Our top 4 has been gaining chemistry and that’s not something you mess with. That’s why I’m saying bottom pairing. Reilly should be a 2/3 guy on any team for sure but assuming he is long term. Rental players are to fill in gaps and we would only acquire him if Jones isn’t cutting it.
