I know, I too would (from a Sabres standpoint) but I doubt Adams does that. GMs probably see value in him because he plays big minutes and he's tall+physical so you could get something for him.

That may be because Minnesota is in a world of hurt regarding the expansion draft with three defensemen with no movement clauses. I know they don’t want to lose Marcus Foligno, but they’re going to have a tough time protecting him. At which point if I’m the Sabres I have a handshake deal with Seattle to trade for Foligno after the expansion draft. Then whether it’s a publicity stunt or a part of adding leadership to the roster, the Sabres sign Nick Foligno and finally unite the brothers in the city they should’ve always played in together. I know it’s a pipe dream, but let me have it for a moment.

All I can go off is what the Capfriendly expansion simulator tells me. It says he needs 17 more games to meet exposure requirements. It's always confused me because I have heard the 2 pro season rule as well. So if he is exposed, we won't protect him. Probably just cough up a 3rd or 4th so they take Eakin or Miller with retention

And Minnesota isn't trading it's 1A goaltender, we've needed solid goaltending for at least a couple seasons and finally got it in Talbot and Kahkonen. Losing either of them would just set us back.

Furthermore, we can easily go 4-4-1 and protect Dumba. We have the assets to easily make a side deal in order to protect those players left exposed because of it. Irregardless if it's yet another Alex Tuch situation... 🤷‍♂️

Yes, it's unlikely they take a free agent but they have the choice if they want. The exposure requirements is to make sure there's a minimal quality of good players available otherwise everyone could expose AHLers.
