NHL Player safety: "NY Rangers’ Pavel Buchnevich will have a hearing today for High-sticking Washington’s Anthony Mantha."

Sure, suspend Buch. But until they suspend Wilson for rest of year, they should expect these type of games to continue.

He should get suspended but if he does people will go nuts just cuz Wilson didn’t

That's the whole point.

YOu and everyone one capfriendly besides a small few: WAHHHHH WAHHH Tom WIlson punched a guy in the head..... blahblahblah

the same people who want hockey to be clean: WHY DOES HE HAVE A HEARING AND NOT WILSON

THE SAME PEOPLE: MCdavid elbow to the face ..... cricket chirp.....

maybe cap fans go over the top defending wilson which is looked at as "stupid" but the other side of the people glorifying what he did and wanting his punishment to be far more that it should are equally "stupid". Ranger fans also arent "cool with it" just like Flyer fans arent "cool" ghost. Buch and Ghost (esp) are far worse than what wilson did but have little to no overreaction for the action but for the hearing/suspension

The reaction by Rangers fans to the cross check and been much more accepting of punishment than what Wilson did on Monday.

Anyways you're really just proving my point. Conjecture and whataboutism when it comes to Wilson.

Dowd and Wilson were both taking on Strome. Two vs one. Panarin stepped in pull Wilson off his teammate and Wilson lost his head.

Watch the video.

There is really no viable defense here. Caps fans should admit he went overboard and should be held accountable.

Ranger fans say Buch should be suspended...why can't capitals fans say the same?

im really not. im just a person that on Thursday thought i wouldnt still be hearing people **** about Tom Wilson lol

i dont care if anyone gets suspended TBH. Did i think Buch was running around trying to hurt people yes! but im not coming on here crying. Maybe Buch will get a suspension bc the Rangers publicly ripped the dops? If wilson were to get 1-2 games for the Panarin thing that would have been fine BUT morons on this site would claim "thats not enough" or " past history should have him out for 10 games" for something that wasnt as bad as people make it out to be. " people said he tried to kill him" lol whataboutism ? yes

Panarin has to take 0 accountability for engaging in a fight or getting involved.

WIlson on Buch
Strome pulls wilson off
Dowd goes for Strome
Wilson get up
Panarin jumps on his back "trying to break it up"
WIlson turns around Buch AND PAnarin are in his face
TVR comes to help
Fox Panarin and Buch and engaged with Wilson and TVR
Wilson slams Panarin WHO was in his face.... not a blind side not a from behind not a cheap shot wrestled him down. a lot of fights happen just like this... crosby wrestles in fights often
Wilson throws ONE punch then stops after see Panarin in a bad stop then pushes him down to the ice
refs and buch jump in
Panarin gets up and punched wilson in the head while being held by ref
dillon hold him back

thats my timeline of this

Should Buch be suspended? Yes. Should Ghost have been suspended? Eh, questionable. The fact that Wilson wasn't is the problem. Wilson's actions were not lesser than that of Buchnevich. In fact, you could argue it was even more reckless.

Jumped on his back? Are you serious? He was pulling WIlson off his teammate.

They aren’t gonna punish Wilson now for what he did. They had their shot to and whiffed big time

Panarin jumped on his back - not Wilson's fault he is a little guy. Do you think Panarin will lift more in the offseason after getting thrown around like that?

In all seriousness - do you think the Rangers will consider relocating to a city in the West so they can avoid seeing Tom Wilson again?

Who is crying? I said Buch should get suspension. I think both Buch and Wilson should be sent home for rest of year. And everyone moves forward.

Difference between suspending both Buch and Wilson for the rest of the year is quite different. Caps have playoffs to look forward to. Rangers have golf to look forward to.

Sucker punching someone laying face down on the ice, then sucker punching a second guy while he's down on the ice (which is why Panarin jumped in), then removing the helmet and throwing Panarin down knowing he didn't have a helmet on (if by his hair makes it worse), punches Panarin in the face while he's on the ice, then lifting him up and trying to slam him face first in the ice again is not defending yourself, especially when he is the one who started the whole thing. God you Caps fans are worse than those Bruins fans who defended Marchand all those years.

Mantha would have happily fought and destroyed Buch if the linesmen weren’t in his way. Buch is the one that actually did something and weasled his way out of it with protection from the refs. How can you defend a guy jumping at someone’s head with his stick, Mantha’s head isn’t sitting there at shoulder height that was a targeted attack to the head. You’re way too charged up about this whole situation if you are SERIOUSLY trying to tell me a couple whacks to the leg isn’t a normal play in the NHL

It's amazing to me that you can write this and not realize how much it proves that you're wrong -- 100% demonstrably and indisputably wrong. Yes, the whole point is that "Mantha would have happily fought and destroyed Buch" because he's a cowardly bully -- he knew who he was slashing from behind, so he felt safe in doing so. He wouldn't have dared slash Milan Lucic or any other tough guy in the NHL. So when Buchnevic unexpectedly turned the tables by using his stick instead of his hands, you come to the bully's defense. And YES, I'm trying to tell you that a couple of whacks to the leg isn't a normal play in the NHL when the whacker is a tough guy and the whackee is a skill guy.

Wilson is a disgrace to hockey, and the fact that Mantha needs to be defended after being the bully initiating the incident indicates that he isn't far behind Wilson. Your inability to acknowledge Mantha's instigation is very telling.

he got fined for that... lol. the league held him accountable for that. Mcdavid elbowed a guy in the face got the samething. from what I've been reading, you keep telling people to move on from the stuff that happened but you continue to bring up the McDavid elbow and whine about that. The point of most people's debate on the Wilson situation is that he got let off extremely light for a senseless act. The difference between him and all the other plays and players you listed, is that Wilson is a constant repeat offender. There's no need for types of plays like his in the game and frankly he's the type of player the league should be looking at getting rid of.

Unfortunately, I think the league got his situation right because they got it wrong in the past. The best comparison would be when Brad Marchand butt-ended Scott Harrington in the back of the head while he was on his knees and then Marchand proceeded to skate away. Both were blows to the head, both were on a defenceless player, and both were completely unnecessary. But when the league didn't discipline Marchand at all for that play, it ties their hands in this situation. What people seem to forget is that the NHL is a business and it's ran by lawyers. They need precedent (a similar act) to suspend Wilson and there was no precedent set because they didn't do it with Marchand. So now they've begun setting the precedent saying that it's a max fine, then they can proceed to issue further discipline from there. In regards to the Panarin situation with Wilson, that's merely a complete lack of respect from Wilson on the game and on any player in the league. But that's not a suspendible action or something to merit a fine. When Wilson engaged with Buchnevich, Ryan Strome came to his teammate's defence and pulled him off (that's hockey). The Nic Dowd pulled Strome away from Wilson (that's hockey but why couldn't Wilson fend for himself there?), then Wilson proceeded to continually throw punches on Strome while Dowd has Strome pinned on the ice in a head lock. There's disrespect example #1 on Wilson's part. Then Panarin comes in and pulls Wilson off of Strome since Dowd is already engaged with Strome, and Wilson defends himself from Panarin (again, that's just hockey and nothing done wrong yet). Wilson then proceeds to rip Panarin's helmet off which is fine, but then body slams Panarin to the ground. Personally, I have no issue with that as it's self-defence and even though Wilson is a much bigger guy than Panarin, Wilson still has the right to defend himself. The other part of the situation that is complete lack of respect from Wilson and it's something that someone need to engrave in his thick a$$ skull, is that he threw 2 direct punches to Panarin's head when Panarin DIDN'T HAVE A HELMET ON. There's no need for that. Many fighters engage in fights and when the guy is on the ground (especially with no helmet) they just stop throwing punches and leave it at that. Wilson then picks Panarin up and throws him down again before the linesman jump in on it to stop it. Why can't Wilson get it through his dumb brain to stop when he's hitting a defenceless player with no helmet on? He has no respect for the game at all, and he needs to go fight Ryan Reaves again to learn a lesson. Reaves is the best fighter in the game, and even he stops when a guy is on the ice because he respects the game. Wilson doesn't.

Moral of the story, stop telling people to stop crying wolf and whining about Wilson, when you continue to do the same about McDavid's elbow and all those other plays. You seem to be able to blow over Wilson's actions more because he plays for your favourite team, forgetting the fact that's he's a constant repeat offender that is a black eye for the sport. Players and fans want players to have respect for one another and then there won't be whining over supplemental discipline at all. But when Wilson has shown a track record of not willing to change, he needs to be dealt with more severely. And that's why fans and people that work in the sport are in an uproar -- because he continually does it which only harms the sport and doesn't help it.

Mate, you are well over the point of being triggered, clearly mad and just wanting to argue at this point it appears. I hope in real life you never write stuff like “how much it proves that you’re wrong” lol come on.

A. Calling Mantha a cowardly bully is absurd and has no backing
B. Mantha did not like the hit from Buch, but Buch skated away from him, hence the whacks. With the temperature of the game I’m sure Mantha expected to go right after that kind of run (not saying it was dirty but an unnecessarily aggressive hit from someone you are calling a skill guy)
C. Mantha is pretty tough himself, just always breaks his hand when he fights haha but I don’t think he’s scared of most in the league. Mantha is ALSO a skill guy
D. Hahahaha “using his stick instead of his hands” oh so an attempt to injure you mean? Because that’s clearly what it was
E. Players whack players in the legs at all levels of the game that is hockey buddy, part of being tough to play against. This instance was clearly not part of the play, but that’s not an irregular thing to have happen to let guys know you’re there
F. I did not mention Wilson in this last response, you are so clearly triggered by him that you need to turn every post into something about him. And don’t you dare tell me Mantha is right behind Wilson get yourself checked

And that's why fans and people that work in the sport are in an uproar -- because he continually does it which only harms the sport and doesn't help it.

i like to say first off i actually read all that which is rare for me.

"Panarin situation with Wilson, that's merely a complete lack of respect from Wilson on the game and on any player in the league. But that's not a suspendible action or something to merit a fine." i completely agree with this statement.

here is where is disagree

finally... i bring up Mcdavid not bc im mad but bc what he did was carelss / worse tha Wilson but people arent furious. Just the best example i can think of. Mcdavid is world class and even he does dirty stuff.... just seems like Wilson could fart and it would trigger people. sometimes its justifiable other times its over the top people losing their minds. To be clear im not "crying wolf with Mcdavid" just wondering why more people werent mad...it just baffles me

Dirtier play than Wilson by far

You kidding me??
Wilson punching Buch while Buch was in an awkward, defenseless position with his head pushed to the ice and his neck against a stick, and his right arm twisted up...pretty damn dirty...in all fairness the punches weren’t death blows- but maybe thanks to Strome jumping in injury to Buch was avoided....which of course led to Panarin jumping on Wilson (to try prevent Strome getting rag dolled (the way he eventually did).

I’m fine with Buch getting suspended for his attacking Mantha (even though Mantha provoked)...but to marginalize what Wilson did versus what Buch did a game later is downright insane....Wilson showed that night....just as he has shown numerous times...that he has no regard for players’ safety. He should have been suspended remainder of regular season and first round of the playoffs...for whatever reason his “consequences” on ensuing violations are getting more and more minimal....this league is failing its players.

I don't think anyone should think that what McDavid did was worse. Yes it was bad, but it wasn't to a completely defenceless player in a vulnerable position. Dirty play is one thing, which is what McDavid's was, no question about that. But a dirty, disrespectful play is something completely different. There's no room for it in hockey.

Although I find it hilarious how Wilson starts all this and it's the Rangers who end up with;
- Panarin out for the season (3 games or not he's still out)
- Buchnevich the suspended one when he was the one punched while he was down
- a fired GM and President (people say that comment didn't get them fired are full of $hit. You fire your GM if you aren't happy with the season, not both. That comment got them fired)
- a $250K fine

Guess Wilson got the final say in that one 😂
