Four things you need to keep in mind before looking at this
1. Just because you do not overrate them, does not mean nobody else does
2. Being overrated does not make you bad
3. Some teams don't have someone who is grossly overrated, so I went with someone who is on the fence
4. Some players are more overrated than others
Most of these are good, but I don't think guys like Gudbranson and Subban are overrated. It's widely accepted that both of them suck
Subban just posted something on instagram calling himself an elite defenseman LOL
and yeah I think everyone knows Gudbranson sucks, but most people probably don't think that he not an NHL level defenseman. I think people would be fine with him as a 6D, even though he is more suited to be a 8/9D
Don’t know if I agree with all that you have listed here. But I do like that you didn’t just go by contracts. Overpaid doesn’t necessarily mean overrated. Due to the nature of the league this year I don’t get much time to watch other teams. So commenting on some players based on this season is difficult.
Marner overrated? Jeez man what have you been watching this year? He's underrated now if anything
Was gonna post something very similar to this. I'm not sure how a guy that's on pace for over 100 in a normal year, and playing great defence is overrated. I think Matthews overshadows him too much because he's the goal scorer, but Marner has been the guy that's been able to play with anyone, played on the PK, and is the guy the power play runs through. Not to mention Marner has till performed without Matthews in the lineup. I'd say there's a better case for Marner being Toronto's best player than saying he's overrated
Yes he is. Literally a top 5 shutdown d-man in the league
Please tell me you have actually analysed Slavin playing defense and compared him to some of the best DFDs in the game rather than going with his public perception.
Sure he has a great stick and is good on the PK, but that does not excuse the fact that he is not positionally sound in the d-zone at 5v5. He is always scrambling out there which leads people to believe that he is doing way more than he actually is
Plz take out Vasy and put someone else. That dude carries us on a nightly basis. Would rather see someone like Hedman on this list over Vasy
Trust me, I was going to put Hedman on here over Vasy originally, but I decided to look at it over the last 2-3 years. This season, Vasy is undoubtedly the best goalie in the league, but he was massively overrated before the 2020 playoffs, while Hedman was universally recognized as a top 3 defenseman
If we are just going by this season, yeah I would put Hedman out here

Marner is a great top line winger, but he is far from a superstar. His defense is above average at best, not great. Sure he is on the PK, but so are hundreds of other forwards, that does not make him special
And him running the PP does not sound like a good thing considering his powerplay is 31st in the league over the last 24 games in terms of PP%.
Also, you saying he has a case for Toronto's best player further proves my point. Matthews is the best/most valuable Leaf and it is not even close
Oh man, I would dearly love to hear you explain how Kyle Connor is overrated.
Do me a favour
Go to youtube.com
Search up "Connor Hellebuyck highlights" or "Connor Hellebuyck best saves"
And focus on what Kyle Connor is doing in the d-zone. More often than not, he will be completely frozen watching the play unfold and gets bailed out by the best goalie in the league

So the guy who's top 5 in league scoring, arguably the best playmaker, a real scoring threat this year, elite on the PK, in the convos for the selke, but he's still not a superstar?

What exactly makes him elite on the PK? None of his numbers point to him being anywhere near the Selke.
And no he is not the best playmaker in the league, not even close. Sure he is a great passer, but playmaking is something completely different. Playmakers make plays. You could consider Auston Matthews a playmaker, and he is better at it than Marner is IMO. Even if you dont, Marner is still nowhere near McDavid, Mackinnon or Crosby in terms of making plays
Also this "real scoring threat has 0 powerplay goals"

Although there is no direct co-relation, overrated player do tend to get overpaid just because of their reputation. Which is why you tend to see a lot of them on these lists
