His buyout costs almost nothing, less than orpik deal cost to buyout

Strome has been tire and Hertl might have be an injury prone player. Feels like a high risk low reward move.

It's the PR headache that makes it cost more.

Doubt Yzerman would buyout DeAngelo even with a 4th attached to it. We already boughtout Abdelkader and probably will buyout Nielsen as well this summer.

So I asked this exact question in your last ACGM referencing Grub’s trade as a baseline for Georgiev but no response. How are they similar?

Grub - career to date pre-trade
101 games played, .923 SV%, 2.29 GAA

Geo - career to date pre-trade
94 games played, .912 SV%, 2.94 GAA

Season they’d be traded
Grub - 35 games played, .923 SV%, 2.35 GAA
Geo - 17 games played, .906 SV%, 2.67 GAA

Georgiev’s SV% has regressed every year so far, .918 to .914 to .910 to .906 (ironically in a perfect linear graph)

Why does Vancouver need a center when they have EP & Horvat?

Grub played on a 2 time presidents trophy winning team, georgiev plays on a rebuilding team, obviously the stats will tell 2 different stories, and GP in a shortened season isn't a fair comparison

So his regression for ever year he’s been in the league is what exactly? Shesterkin is doing just fine. It could be that Georgiev is just that, a backup. It’s not like you have scrubs on the backend either, ones even got a great claim for Norris. Seems like Detroit is buying high in the hopes Georgiev can become a starter but our defense is even worse shape so, that’s not great. Who else would you use as a comp? Grub also destroyed Holtby that last season.

Have you seen our defense before that? Our defense core was staal smith skjei pionk deangelo and shattenkirk, also shesterkin is elite so he performs with anyone in front of him so bad example

So Detroit is acquiring a dime a dozen goalie, is your argument? That logic also of your defensive core doesn’t hold up because his SV % has decreased with a better defense. Why wouldn’t they just acquire one via FA then and save their assets?

I also added a little more to that prior post.

Like I said the other day I have no problem with a DeAngelo buyout. I also like Georgiev but doubt Yzerman will move a 2nd. Drop the 4th and switch the 2nd to Vegas's 3rd and it good.

So again, your logic doesn’t add up to why he’s regressed every year. If anything you’ve argued he’s got worse with a better defense. Detroit is paying a premium for a goalie that’s regressed every years he’s entered into the league because he’s 25? Why not try and get Ullmark whose only 2 years older and keep the future assets? Grub isn’t a good comp clearly, who else would you use?

Why?

Murray besides the 2 cups had fairly average regular season stats and still got a 2nd, robin lehner being somewhat mediocre got ottawa a 1st

I’d wager you’d currently say Matt Murray is a contract dump? .892 SV%.

I’d also wager you’d agree that old school GMs probably valued his two Stanley Cups and that his regular season stats were still better than Geo while still being the same age (at time of trade).

So Detroit takes still the inferior goalie with no Stanley Cup experience but it’s much closer than Grubs. So Yzerman using a bad trade to justify this instead of going the Ullmark route which I mentioned earlier.

Murray stats were extremely close to Georgievs actually (barring GAA ofc) and Ullmarks stats are pretty similar but hes a UFA so he has to be convinced to sign there unlike georgiev who has 2 years of team control left

I see you added Lehner after I responded.

Lehner (age 19-23) during these stats. We’d probably agree that Lehner got rushed into the NHL as very few teenagers should see the NHL.

86 games played, .914 SV%, 2.88 GAA

His age 24 & 25 which would be Geo’s last two season produced like this in Buffalo.

80 games played, .922 SV%, ~2.59 GAA

Your missing the point on Murray. That’s a bad trade for Ottawa only a few months after. Yzerman is Detroit’s GM. Murray is valued by old school GMs because he has 2 cups where he was the starter.

Yeah, UFAs need to be convinced. Multiple goalies available and the only thing Detroit needs is cap space which they have in spades, free asset.

Why that’s their performance till their age 25, which highlights what I said about rushing him to the NHL. It also allows you to fully compare the two goalies otherwise you’re comparing a 23 year old vs 25 year old and the 23 year old still is slightly better.

I’d agree with that Murray is the best comp you’ve provided thus far and our GM has already stated he’s retaining his picks and probably isn’t dumb enough to model a trade after that fiasco which I debated with Pen fans last year about.
