Bonus Note: Tyler Johnson and Dylan Gambrell are Washington natives. Alex True played for Seattle Thunderbirds and Morgan Geekie played for Tri-City Americans.
The Canucks would protect Lind over Virtanen and Motte. I also doubt they protect Myers, they're gonna try and grab a defensemen from a desperate team for a discount
We have no need to give up a first to protect Dumba. We just go 4-4-1, and let Seattle take Greenway.
Additionally, given that our 2020 1st was Marco Rossi. We're not giving that up either. So I assume you meant our 2021 1st, but as I already stated, that's still a no on our end.
I have no idea why Seattly would let Colorado get away with keeping Toews for a 3rd. More realistically thy convince Johnson to waive his NMC.
Does Minnesota not jusut go 4-4-1? Or convince Suter to waive.
Have to think Philly keeps Lindblom over, say, JvR or Hayes.
I also think NYI will protect Bellows over someone like Pageau.
Have no idea why Keeping Holl is so important for Toronto, and if it is, I'm sure you could let go of Brodie.
I don't think Ottawa needs to protect more defensemen than Chabot.
Basically I think a lot of teams are willing to let go of 30-something year olds with a few years of term at a mid-level cap hit rather than letting go of a younger player with upside on an ELC or lower cost contract. You can almost always find the first type in FA, the second type is harder to come by.

Penguins won’t leave McCann unprotected. They won’t protect Pettersson.
It seems like some of you are just unclear on the rules of the Expansion Draft. You can only protect 8 skaters or 7 forwards/3 defensemen. The Senators gain nothing from only protecting Chabot on D and the Penguins cannot swap protecting for Pettersson for McCann.
Kraken would definitely be on Mason Appleton from the Jets if that was what their protection list is going to be.
Appleton has played well, yeah. But Berdin is one of the few Expansion-eligible goalies who is still waiver-exempt (for a couple years too) and he’s one of the better young prospect goalies in the AHL. I think he’s worth skipping Appleton.

I'd rather keep another forward on the Sens than Zaitsev - who you never need to protect and you're super happy if Seattle takes, or Mete who Mtl didn't care to keep around. Just saying "they gain nothing" doesn't grapple with anything I said, but go off on me for "not knowing the rules"

Greenway who is 24, fourth in scoring (and two points out of second), and is the only power play regular who has good possession numbers with the man advantage? Something tells me they’d pay up to protect him as well and then going 4-4 instead of 7-3 just means they could lose Foligno or Hartman instead of Soucy.

I don’t think you understand the math here. I protected 7 forwards and 3 defenseman. If you subtract two defensemen, it earns you... 0 more forwards. Protection doesn’t change, just exposure. Makes no sense.

ohh, yeah you're right, my bad on that one. Still not sure Tierny is the one to give up there, but you can subract that point off of my list, sure

I think you protect Fiala, Greenway and Ek and ask Parise or Zuc to waive. Or do 7-3 with Suter waiving. I'm pretty sure they can convince either or both that Seattle isn't going to take them.
Great expansion mock draft The only thing I would change for NJ is that I doubt Bastian gets pick. He doesn't have much upside. I think Seattle takes either Butcher, Merkley, or Johnsson

Right, Greenway who is an inconsistent Middle Six PF vs Dumba who is a legitimate Top Pairing RHS OFD/TWD who has considerably more value.
Decisions, Decisions...
You take the hit on losing Greenway, protect Dumba and then move him after the ED for Max Value and a haul once opposing GM's can no longer lowball us because of the current threat of the expansion draft. Giving up a 1st for a guy just so we can protect him when we're likely moving him later anyway makes no sense, none.
To be brutally blunt, a guy like Greenway is quite frankly, replaceable.
That said, if Greenway's available Seattle's not taking either Foligno or Hartman over him. They're going to take Greenway... or Talbot. Boldy most likely replaces Greenway in our lineup starting next year. Addison, Dumba. So in effect, we already have available replacements ready to slot in if neither is on our roster next year. That isn't to say their losses wouldn't hurt, just that we can afford to lose them.
Talbot, in all honesty is the guy we can least afford to lose.

Bastian and Merkley have similar stats. As a big 2nd rounder, why do you say Bastian doesn't have much upside?
I don't see him being anything more than a 3rd/4th line wing. He Merkley could be a middle 6 winger. I think they choose Butcher if he is left exposed
With Skjei, Graves, Jones and Zboril probably available on the left side, I think they would pass on Butcher and take a chance on a prospect that could develop into a middle 6 center, if one of those 2 fits the profile.

I never said swap Pettersson for McCann. The Penguins aren’t letting McCann go. Zucker will be unprotected and so will Pettersson. Rather protect Matheson.
