Seattle Kraken featuring RNH and Gourde

Description
Seattle makes a splash in the UFA market by signing RNH to a big contract as their #1 center.
Tampa puts Gourde on waivers for Seattle to claim in exchange for selecting Johnson with their expansion draft pick.
Seattle also picks up some draft picks for taking Loui Eriksson, and promptly sends him to the waiver wire.
Some new contracts are guessed at, others are just ignored for now. Seattle has the ability to trade 3rd liners to other teams for late picks - I'm sure there's some teams out there that wouldn't hate Khaira or Larsson for a 4th.
Remove Seattle's extra dressed players and their cap room increases to ~8M - they have lots of flexibility. Seattle could easily trim the roster down more, send away some guys for late picks, and pick up another bad contract if they want more picks (Ladd is 5.5M). To be fair, Kylington needs a new contract.

I'd be pretty shocked to see Seattle take Watson.

Also 9 mil for RNH is absolutely insane. He should get like 7mil.

Who else would they take from Ottawa? Is it because Watson is a bad guy? I figure they'll overlook that and go for a good value player. Feel free to suggest a better pick from Ottawa.

9M is way too high, sure, but lower and Edmonton matches easily. The point is Seattle wants to make a splash and thus overpays. It's not the worst thing in the world to overpay an actual good player.

As much as I would like Seattle to take Kerfoot, strictly for cap purposes, they'll like take Dermott. Leafs don't have the draft capital anymore to entice SEA to take Kerfoot, and aren't likely to send a prospect over instead because they don't have the draft picks to restock the cupboards.

I like the Eriksson move. I think we somehow end up bribing Seattle not to take Bean or Ned.

Seattle has enough depth defensemen that Dermott would have trouble making the lineup. They're lacking in good forwards, and Kerfoot is a fine second liner. Trust me, I've thought about this a lot, and as a Leafs fan I'd actually rather keep Kerfoot than Dermott (since we have Sandin to take Dermott's place).

From Ottawa, probably one of the goalies (Ie. Hogberg/Gustavsson/I feel like there's another one...), as opposed to taking Kinkaid.

For RNH, sure, Seattle would be a fun team to see make a splash, but it shouldn't be on him. To run him out as a 1C is a bad, bad option, especially at $9 mil per year.

Ducks expose Shattenkirk, Fleury, Mahura, and Larsson before they lose Manson for nothing, even if exposing Manson makes more sense Bob Murray loves Manson and will not lose him for nothing even if exposing him is the best choice

I feel like there's going to be a lack of true C's out there. Kerfoot obviously isn't the best option in the world, but realistically he is a bigger impact pick than Dermott.

I guess it depends on who else they choose from the other squads. If they have enough "C's" by then, they'll take Dermott, and visa versa if they believe they have the defenseman they need.

Agreed. I'd rather keep Fleury at this point, but he'll be exposed before Manson.

If you think Nuge is a 9M 1c, you will be disappointed. He’s not at all, he is way better on the wing than at the center position unless he has good wingers. He’s one of those guys that can’t drive a line on his own so he needs good help. He is a very good top 6 players, but that is insane!

For sure. Gives them a bit more flexibility instead of paying that much for a good 3C. I honestly assume that there's going to be more trades in this one than the Vegas one had, which is nuts.

If I'm Ron Francis, I am salivating at the amount of draft picks that are going to be thrown at him to take a large contract. SEA may not have the same type of team that Vegas had, but they'll definitely have a good start in terms of draft picks.

100%. A lot of people say that GM's are going to have learned their lesson this time around, but with a flat cap and reduced revenue, it's going to be a fun game of chicken.

That's a lot of money tied up with a lot of OK players. I think SEA will want more flexibility and select some cheaper/younger contracts too -- which is pretty much missed here since you chose mostly NHLers.

Oh sure, you can easily swap out some guys. I don't know nearly enough about other teams' prospect pools to know which they'd select, so I went with the safe options.

Do they not protect him? Hischier, Johnsson, Wood, Bratt, Zacha, Mcleod are the crowd sourced protections. Add on Merkley or Greer as the 7th forward I suppose. I don't see how Johnsson is exposed.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll update it. I couldn't really fathom the Ducks protecting a 29 year old Manson who is one year from UFA over a 24 year old Fleury who is 1 year from RFA, but if Murray does love him so much, then so be it, that's the pick.

You're absolutely right. And yet, why not spend some money, eh? Not like there's better C options out there. If only a team could gift them 2/3 of a top line like Florida did to Vegas...

So Hischier, Zacha and Bratt are the obvious protections, right? And then also Wood? Plus Siegenthaler I suppose. So that does leave Johnsson to Seattle and I think he'd be a solid fit there on the second line.
