The Sabres find themselves in a very interesting situation. Lately they have found success using Sam Reinhart as a center. If they should choose to keep him there, when Eichel gets back they have their first and second line center already locked in. Dylan Cozens was expected to be a second line center, but he would operate as a first line right wing just as well. Skinner and Olofsson take the LW spots on the top 2 lines.
Thompson is a 3rd line RW, Mittelstadt likely gets 3rd line center. Artuu Ruotsalianen could be the 3rd line LW. Next season Girgensons would be back, and fit with Asplund and Lazar on the 4th line. I expect Okposo gets bought out. The spot in the lineup that would be available is 2nd line RW.
This is all pending what happens at the trade deadline. I’m not sure what they get in return for the pieces they move out. I’m also curious who they might land at the draft and if that player could make the team immediately. If they pile up draft picks could they use any of them to acquire roster talent after the expansion draft? Kevyn Adams has a lot to think about.
