Of course someone is going to give something for Kerfoot. Kerfoot is better than Johnsson and he had positive value. But yes, McCann is a bit steep of a price for Kerfoot.

I can't speak for what someone else suggests. I am asking why people such as you act like he's bad. You said you don't know the leafs would get anything.

He's a solid but not special two player who scores like an okay 3c or 2w. He's no game breakers but he's also fairly paid through his prime.

The only reason he shows up in leafs trades is because he's the only player on the leafs outside of their big 4, top 3 d and starting goalie making over 2.25 mil. It's a cap thing.

He's a totally fine middle six winger...

no it's not. No GM is out there trying to "lose" a trade. They are looking for equal value in return, not clear down grades.
........but whatever.

Hell at that rate you might as well ask for McDavid at 50% retained.

McCann is a career 0.17 goals per game and 0.4 points per game to kerfoots 0.19 goals per game and 0.5 points per game

So offensively kerfoot has been better...

Defensively kerfoot was better until this year with a positive shot differential and McCann mostly negative. Interestingly they've both switched this year. Perhaps McCann has figured something out.
Probably a more fair assessment. I just don't believe Kerfoot is trending in the right direction. He has pretty much put up the same production at 5v5 his entire career. McCann has really showed good development over the last few years in Pittsburgh. He is a player that appears to be trending forward, whereas Kerfoot (IMO) looks like he is exactly what he is and won't develop any further. I think for that reason I favor McCann more.

As the leafs I'd probably prefer McCann as he's a little younger and a little cheaper but anyone acting like there is a huge difference in either direction is kidding themselves

A good GM should win the trade, that means his team can expect that they get a better player than the one they had. So it is not abnormal or strange for leafs fans to think they might get a better player in a trade.
