I don't want to trade Rinne, especially to PIT, but that deal is too good to pass up -- I doubt he gets traded at all though. I'm think he may play another year and resign with NSH.

I get that, I feel the same way with Quick. We'll see what happens. I think Rinne is definitely a guy the Penguins need to look at.

These seem like total Hextall/Burke trades.

The value is fine, but does LA really need another middle-pairing LHD?

I mean he's good 2nd pair guy. It depends on how you value Maatta, Clague, and Bjornfot right now.

Anderson Doughty
Pettersson Roy
Bjornfot Walker

That would be a sweet blueline and it would give us the ability to shelter Bjornfot more and let him get adjusted to the NHL easier.

I'd be fine if this didn't happen, but it totally seems like Hextall moves.

It's funny because I just had a fight over at LAKI saying that Bjornfot should probably spend the rest of the season in the AHL as to not burn a year off his ELC, and got absolutely overwhelmed in opposition. Everyone there wants Bjornfot to stay in the NHL.

I think the Kings need to play Clague, if only to determine where he's at so they can determine whether or not to use an expansion draft protection slot on him. He has done well with his NHL time so far, but leaving him in the AHL for the rest of the year isn't going to help determine his NHL-readiness. He's waiver exempt next year, so it's NHL or bust by then anyway.

If you make this trade, you're essentially giving up on Clague and saying that he's not a part of this team's future.

I'm not opposed to sending down Bjornfot. He had quite a few rookie mistakes, not a liability though. I actually thought he'd be sent down before tonight. He can benefit a lot from spending the rest of the season in Ontario then come up on the 3rd pair next year. We have the advantage of patience.

I still don't understand why Clague was sent down. He was playing 20+ mins a night and wasn't a liability. He was active offensively and solid defensively. I want to see him with Roy again. If you look at him on paper, he doesn't look great, but for those of us who watched him understand why a call up should be soon.

I wouldn't mind doing this:
Anderson Doughty
Clague Roy
Pettersson Walker

Would be fine, as long as you're willing to run with 8 defensemen on the roster (see your other ACGM comments for details).

You overvaluing your prospects doesn't make my trades unfair.

These trades are ALL fair value, look above to see the feedback it got...

You overvaluing bad contracts doesn’t make the trades fair. They aren’t fair value by a long shot. No team is going to qualify Sam bennett who is having a bad year to the 2.5 million QO making him a pending UFA. No team that could have just taken on Henrique for free is going to pay a young top 4 D for an over the hill Jeff Carter who is likely having a fluke year. No team who lacks draft equity is going to use one of the few high draft picks they have for next year and their backup goalie to trade for a pending UFA backup. Even if he is an upgrade. That leaves the pens without a backup option for next year. It also leaves them with 7 players to sign and only like 5 million in cap space. So nah.

You're an idiot. Almost everyone knows Sam Bennett just needs a change of scenery, at least half the teams would give him a shot if the price was right and they had a spot for him. Hence all the Bennett trades on here all the time.

Look up how good "over the hill" Jeff Carter is doing and watch him, he's the fastest he's ever been. He's also 50% retained. If you think 3Mx2 Jeff Carter is a bad contract then you really shouldn't be on this site. May I recommend Twitter?

Lastly, Rinne has a 916 save percentage despite being on an awful Predators team. If you haven't heard, Hextall wants to add a goalie with playoff experience.

Again, do you know who your GM is? I happen to know a lot about Hextall as he's been with the Kings most of his executive career.....

So they are all GM’s? And again, if that’s all he needed then he’d have been traded for by now. The reason he hasn’t been though is because it’s a huge risk. I mean they all said the same about galchenyuk and then the pens trade for him and he sucks even worse.

I’m absolutely thrilled for Jeff Carter. However he still only has 3 goals. He is still 36 going to be 37 next year. And I don’t recall saying his contract was bad. I said he is over the hill and likely having a fluky year and that the pens aren’t in the business right now of trading youth for players that are almost 40.

I’m also absolutely thrilled for Rinne too. However trading a goalie for a goalie isn’t adding a goalie. It’s replacing one. If he wants to use a pick to obtain a goalie, then sure. But to use a 1st when goalies rarely have that value unless they are elite starters and add the current backup that has another year on his contract for cheap would be counterproductive for how HEXTALL AND BURKE have said they want to make their mark on this team. LA and Pittsburgh are in TOTALLY different positions.

no way the penguins do this. Carter is 36 years old, they aren't giving up MP for him.
No way they are trading out that 1st in 2022 either. This team is in no position to do that. Management knows that at this point. They have started to transition this team.
Bennett isn't going to return that. No one is qualifying him next year. It's 2.5+ million to do that. He's not worth that. He's basically a struggling rental.
People don't overpay for that.
