Description
Was incredibly bored, so I created my own version of the Seattle Kraken and projected what the team will look like, and some prior moves that might have an effect on what they'll look like eventually.

note: using Dallas as template as they have all their picks intact and no active buyouts hindering their cap.

I planned doing it but never had the time. It looks good but Im surprised the defense is not looking better.

Yeah it was a time consuming process.

Went the teams through alphabetically...there's surprisingly low amount of D-men available at the back end of the list, compared to beginning.

When some Tampa fans said TB will pay to Seattle to take McDonagh, I laughed at the thought, but now it doesn't seem that stupid of an idea, if the D is this weak.

They may not have to pay them. McDonagh doesn't have the ideal contract, but I could see him performing at a great level through it, considering his playstyle. They may not have to pay Seattle to take it.

Doubtful. Better contracts out there and free agency will be leveraged in Seattle's favour

Honestly at this point I rather do 7-3-1, and get Seattle to pick one of Kassian, or Neal with paying with Jones, and more if needed.

That length would scare me if i'm Francis. I'd use Tampa's cap hell to my own advantage if I'm helping them that much, u catch my drift?

I mean if they're protecting only 3 Ds, one of Klefbom or Jones is getting left out.

Fairly sure than should Klefbom be left out, Seattle will just take him, if that situation with his shoulder is looking even slightly better. We're talking about that good of a defenseman right here.

Who else they'd protect? For now Miller will be left out anyway as he's their only D that would fill the exposure requirement rule...

Yeah I 100% get what you mean, but Francis is also not known for his risk-taking personality. Banking on Shattenkirk to be a #1D and on Bean & Kukan to form the 2nd pairing is risky. If he believes that McDonagh will be the cornerstone of that blueline, he could go for it. We'll see I guess.

I’m talking about protecting Bear, Nurse, and Klefbom if he isn’t exempt. I most rather Klefbom over Jones every day! That’s why I’m thinking of paying Seattle to take one of Kassian, or Neal and use Jones as the main piece! I for one am not a huge fan of Jones, especially with how he’s been playing this year, so it’s his time to get a change of scenery.

Not necessarily, since he played the last year in full. NHL will make the decision regarding that in due time. Considering the latest draft, the players who were exempt due to injuries was pretty much all cases where their careers were over. Unless it becomes public info that Klefbom is unable to continue playing hockey, I don't see him becoming exempt.

Why wouldn't Seattle just take Jones for free then, without loading that terrible Neal contract with him?

From what I understand, players who do not play 40 games of the 2020-21 season OR a combined 70 games between the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 season are exempt. It depends on whether or not he plays in the playoffs I guess.

Well honestly, we would have to give more. He’s not a trash player. He’s still a descent fourth liner, that can play first PP minutes that can mentor your young players that I almost am certain that Seattle is gonna get a lot of those. He just makes a lot, but it will only be for 2 years 5.75M. A good tough third liner in Kassian could be a person of interest as well, if we pay. Making 3.2M for 3 years, good skater, good shooter. Mentors well, and is tough, will also protect your star players.
