That’s a bad move either way for both teams. Nashville loses a servicable C for 2 bleh pieces and the wild get tied up basically extending themselves into a cap hell for years. Both teams would say no.

I’m not comfortable with 8 mil over 5 years for Johansen. I’d probably be in if NSH retained 3 mil and we’d add a 1st, even then I’m not sold. It’s a very interesting idea though.

What if it was for Zuccarello and Rask ($2M retained)?

I would do it in a heartbeat but it doesn’t make sense for NSH unless we send futures back and Zucc would have to waive. Beckman is probably the point where I say that’s too much.

The idea is to open up cap space, a roster spot, and add some assets. IDK if MIN is willing to part with the assets needed for it though. And I don’t deny that Johansen is better than Rask and Johansson, that’s why I said Wild add.

Sorry, misinterpreted. Wild can’t take on inflated contracts, they’d need to move money out to make it work after 2022. Cap is probably the most important piece until Parise/Suter are off the books.

If the point for Nashville is to clear cap, this is a great move. Mojo is off the books this summer and Rask next summer. Johansen will have 3 years left when Rask is gone which would give Nashville flexibility to do.. something.

Don't see Zuccarello waiving but Zucc plus a second/B prospect for Johansen would make sense in my opinion

Rask would need to go with for cap reasons if there’s no retention. I also just feel like that is too little going to NSH, but I’d take it without question.

Zucc and Bjugstad would work for cap purposes with no retention on either side.

Edit: Not sure how I'd feel about it. Nashville saves cap long term, so maybe they bite. I'd need to see what the cap looks like for the Wild going forward when they extend Ek, Fiala, and Kaprizov.

With Truc's initial offer of Mojo and Rask going back, NSH opens up about $6M in cap space after this season. Roughly $7M'ish if they buyout Rask on top of that. They could make a serious attempt at Danault in the off-season with that cap, which would be a under the radar smart upgrade for them if they did.

I see where this would naturally lead, but it wouldn't be prudent on our end because having Zuccarello's contract still on our roster would hinder the Wild from being capable of signing Fiala, Kaprizov, and Eriksson-Ek if we did this. That's no es bueno.

In my offer, despite the fact we increase our cap by an extra $2M for one player at the cost of two roster spots in the short term, we retain the cap space flexibility to move players like Mojo, Bonino, or Bjugstad to make the cap work and give us the space need to re-sign our guys too. Even though it'd be incredibly tight during the short term, we could make it work.

NSH, conversely, only opens up a couple million if the buyout Rask, but as @Jnowariak surmised, would get some futures in addition to what I suggested. Which was backbone idea of the trade I was thinking of but didn't want to bother with the fluff.

But here's the thing, RyJo hasn't been particularly good the past couple of seasons so his contract is definitely a bad one right now. He's looked disinterested to boot, and hasn't had good chemistry with either Forsberg or Arvidsson, two really good wingers, but I think if he had a change of scenery, his playing style could mesh nicely with either Fiala or Kaprizov who would fit it to a tee.

Given that, I actually think he could live up to that contract of his and would be a cheaper option than a Barkov which would save us some cap room long term. Even if Barkov is the better player who is worth every penny of that $10M+ contract he'll get.

I’d guess 18 mil for the 3 of them. That’s not to mention a Greenway and Addison extension in 2 years. It’s gonna be stupid tight for the next 5 years.

Greenway might not be here next year, depending on how Guerin handles Seattle. They'll lose one of Greenway, Soucy, or Dumba for sure unless they convince Seattle to take Rask for a pick or something (which would help the cap situation next year).

Edit: If Addison pans out, he'll eventually take Dumba's spot on the roster and hopefully cost the same or less.

That’s fair. I’m working under the assumption that they want him around. If I were a betting man, I’d guess he’s angling for them to take Soucy.

If Guerin can convince zuccarello and parise to waive their NMCs, the wild can protect their top four d-men, eriksson-ek, Fiala, greenway, and Foligno. Doubt Seattle takes soucy because there will be plenty of younger and more talented d-men available.

Yeah, hopefully Guerin has better luck navigating NMCs than Fletcher did. Personally I think Seattle is more likely to take Greenway than Soucy, but there's a ton of variables in that process for them to consider.
