No because Matthews is worth way more then Hall+Staal, who are both pending UFA's, and will need quarentine time so that lowers their value, even with retention.

Sorry that was a poor choice of words, I meant to say it lowers their value if they are to be traded into Canada. A Canadian team will not offer as much as an American team simply because of that. 4 million retention for one year isn't really going to increase the value that much. Like a 2nd round pick maybe for that retention

First of all Matthews have term on is contract and is clearly not in the same categorie of players then Hall. Hall is a pending unrestricted free agent and doesn't hold any near Matthews value in a trade. Based on what Arizone pay to acquire Hall don't expect the return to be much better this time around. I am not a big fan of this trade what so ever.

They did get Hall for nothing... so its free picks. I can see it costing more depending on other NHL teams offers but in my opinion adding Liligren to my offer would be more than fair considering neither Staal or Hall is playing for Buffalo or Toronto after this year. If it is more than my offer then you don't do it, plain and simple. I'm not trying to make Buffalo happy. I'm offering an option for the Leafs around trade deadline day.
