What it would take for Deangelo to come to Ottawa

Description
It would have to be something like the Stepan-Deangelo trade from 4 years ago, only better for Ottawa. If this DeAngelo trade somehow happens (God Forbid), I hope everybody in Ottawa and across Canada gets distracted by Ottawa winning the Draft Lottery. I'm not hopeful though :(

That's why a Deangelo trade doesn't happen.

Yet, people on capfriendly still try to make it work.

Its an interesting situation. He's not worth anything from the Rangers to move him because his buyout is close to nothing but he's not worth assets to other teams because of his demeanor amongst the team.

The Rangers can buy Deangelo out of his contract for very little money, so there's absolutely no need to trade him. Very possible he stays on the roster until after the expansion draft.

The only way Ottawa or any other team would have what it takes to get Deangelo is if they trade an actual asset for him. The Rangers are not going to trade players or draft picks in order for a team to take him off their hands. Nor will the Rangers take on a bad contract- fact.

Again Deangelo can be bought out for a little over $300,000 and a little over $800,000 the next two years. Which is why there's absolutely no way the Rangers make the kind of trade you're proposing.

Ottawa doesn't extend, Rangers would.

But I could care less about what happens to Stepan, once he's on a different team.

I'm still salty about the Stepan trade last Christmas :/ Ho! Ho! Ho!

The Rangers would just be better off making DeAngelo continue to sit at home and buying him out in the summer.

I'm well aware of that. I've made it clear in my post and in the comments that a DeAngelo trade to Ottawa will never happen. Ever.

These "extensions" you suggest, almost never happen they wouldn't be part of the trade.
Ottawa would hope to get something back in any Stefan trade to recoup their second they gave up for him. Don't see a retained DAD (which is needed) for Stepan fits into Rangers cap.
Ottawa can only pray some team has injured problems at centre and take Stepan. But will get very little for him, maybe a second rounder and Ottawa retains.

Deangelo trade to Ottawa could happen. Just not for the trade proposal you posted. If you're aware of it, why would you (and so many trade proposals from others posted on this site) have the Rangers trading assets for a team to take Deangelo off their roster?

I wouldn't extend Stepan either, but someone will give him a contract, or could extend him, because the extension will be on the new teams terms, and cost.

DeAngelo would be a Public Relations nightmare and Toxic team mate for Ottawa, maybe even worse than when he was in the Rangers' lineup. Ottawa has had enough PR nightmares. Under what circumstances would Ottawa trade for DeAngelo?

Stepan has a ton of character while DeAngelo has no character. There's a human element to swapping players and I'm just trying to illustrate that. Not trying to pick a fight smile

I suppose it all depends on how long the cancel culture keeps Deangelo cancelled before going back to a culture of second chances? smile Stepan has character, but he no longer has talent.

Stepan is also not a team leader... A few times Stepan tried to be a leader on the Rangers and failed miserably. Most notably when he told Lundqvist to relax. Anyone who's a team leader knows NEVER tell an intensely competitive person (like Lundqvist) to relax. To this day I'm sure Stepan feels lucky/blessed Lundqvist didn't break his stick over his head.

I watch the Rangers a lot less than I watch the Sens, so thanks for the insight smile
