He is half retained RFA, hometown boy, played well in playoffs could be great for us and it’s a late 1st.... Kapanen got mid 1st+ and not at the deadline when people are desperate

Edit: next years 1st too even less important for the win now mentality

1. being a hometown boy has no effect on trade value, and if it does it would decrease the value in return not raise it.

2. Kapanen is better than Bennett imo, is a great PKer and okay on the PP.

3. GMJR was crazy for paying that much for Kapanen, it was an overpayment at the time and still is. Dubas doesn't do that.

4. depending on the leafs salary cap, they might not even need to retain that much

The leafs ripped the pens off for Kapanen and they arnt going to respond in kind, mccan has also never hit 20 goals and has more than 30 points once in his career.

If you end up hiring Hextall be prepared for a 5 year rebuild. He doesn’t skip corners. Man will take on any bad contract for 1st round picks. He’s a hell of a drafter but the process takes many years.
