Sure... just add 2 firsts and have them retain 500k. But they still say no.

Flames are accruing a decent chunk of cap space on every off day since Ryan goes on TS

Donskoi is meh and older with term, Bennett is meh but younger. CGY should target a similar player in return like a Virtanen (Which is already being suggested around this site).

Avs should say no. Donskoi has 31 more pts in 14 fewer games, does a good job in the middle 6 regardless of who his linemates are does a good job on special teams and is a good fit stylistically.

So Calgary would reject an offer of Donskoi (500k retained) + 1st + 1st for Bennett? Ok if you say so...

I disagree. Donskoi's advanced stats with San Jose were really good, but with Colorado he's consistently in the bottom 3-5 players in Corsi and Fenwick. He does chip in some goals here and there, but for $3.9m you'd expect to have a winger who could impact the game with more shift-to-shift consistency than Donskoi. His xG/60 stats are around the worst on the team. Stylistically he's also more of a east-west player rather than north-south, so I disagree that he's a fit style wise too.

I also don't think it's right to compare Donskoi and Bennett's production directly, because they play different styles and roles. Moreover, there's capsaving involved here which allows us to target a legit 3C (while keeping Bennett on the 4th line). Kaut could probably do what Donskoi does with his ice time.

Bennett wants out of Calgary because he's playing on the third line, he'll be thrilled to hear you want him on your fourth.

I’m so sick and tired of “roles” ... if you can’t put the puck in the net you are not playing a role... you just suck. I get their are cold spells but Bennet has put up less points in more games than yakupov.

Bennett is hated by the avs as he has injured 2 players, compher and girard with late dirty hits.

Plus Bennett is a massive downgrade. He does not have the hockey iq and ability to read the game at a high level to be more than a glorified goon who fights to create a spark

Bennett wants a bigger role than a 3rd liner so He’s an awful fight on the avs

Has Bennett specifically come out and said that he wants a bigger role? It makes sense that he would think that, I'm just curious if he's said it publicly.

As for this proposed trade, keep in mind that there's a lot of value in shifting Donskoi's contract. Bennett is an RFA this offseason so we'd effectively have $3.9 freed up the next two years, along with another $1.35m in capspace this season.

Yea that is exactly what they said during Saturday headlines, he Wants a bigger opportunity

I think you are really over looking the drop in talent, Bennett is really bad, and swapping him out for donskoi makes them worse trying to go for the cup

Figure out cap stuff when or if they need to. I think it’s an awful move to actively downgrade a player just to hoard cap space for this obsessive 3c upgrade

This is the Donskoi stance that kinda drives me crazy. He doesn’t play the same role in COL as he did in San Jose. Avs fan like to hate on him because of his contract, but let’s really talk about what he does. He is the winger from the bottom 6 who consistently scores 30pts but also is the guy who slides into the top 6 pretty seamlessly when there is an injury and will produce unlike guys like Nichushkin, Compher, and Jost. He is a staple on the 2nd PP, can kill penalties and is a great skater and imo is awesome in transition. All things that are necessary of non top line players for the Avs. Is he soft yes, is he overpaid for what he does probably, but he isn’t a thug who maintains his role because of his draft status. Also as @coga16 pointed out you don’t trade for acquire a guy that has injured players in your locker room, don’t think the Brad May acquisition back in the day caused issues in the locker room?

Donskoi has a high hockey IQ and fits into any role that Bednar puts him, I dont think people realize how bad of a player Bennett is, even flame fans agree that he just isn't smart enough to play in elevated roles. Why do you think he adopted his thug picking for fight spark mentality...he had to or else he would be finding himself in an unemployment Line really fast.

Bennett is a worse case scenrio of Jost. high pick guys who do not live up to the spot they are selected, but at least in Jost case he adopted and become a 4th line defensive specialist/PKer. Those are useful NHL skills that can keep his career going. Bennett just become a fake tough guy, did we just forget what happened in the playoffs against him? His team is losing so he goes running around head hunting looking for a spark, junk after the whistle but all eh did was end up hurting his team sending the Avs to the PP

Fair enough, you've made a pretty solid case there I have to admit.

Brad May was an asinine acquisition. Of all the goons in the league they had to acquire HIM? So dumb and out of touch.
