A guy's who have played is 100 carrer games sunday. A guy's who is -5 after 5 games. Having a great year doesnt make him a oustanding defenseman.

Highest +/- on the best team in the league doesn't really say much. It's a really overused and inflated stat.

Sure, he's not the most experienced. He's had an average start to the year as well, but so has the entire Avs team, can't just pin it on him. He did have a bad game last game out though to be fair, but before that he had a good couple of games.

Hmm, he has great stats when playing with one of the best defensemen in the league last year, and has poor stats when not this year. Surely there's no correlation between these two things

I see what you're saying, and it's a valid point.

But by the same token Makar did better when paired with Graves. He might not be the one carrying a D unit, but he does a good job enabling a more offensive guy.
