They're both pretty bad for the Leafs...I mean, you're trading a 1st, 2nd, 4th, and a couple of fringe prospects for 2 3rd line guys that you'll have to non-tender (Because you can't afford them), and a 3rd. If you're moving a 1st, pull a Tampa, and at least get someone that is under contract for a couple of seasons at the league minimum.

Leafs had the opportunity to sign both players and did not. (For good reason) the idea of wasting all of these assets seems fairly horrible.

I like Duclair but I think the reason the Leafs didn't sign him is that he's not really a bottom six player. I'd much prefer not having Athanasiou and don't like the idea of giving up picks for him. He's fast, can score but has next to zero defensive skills.

This is just an angst driven move. Too many people say the Leafs bottom 6 is garbage, they say it because these same people just want them to fail and will say whatever they need to to justify their opinion. The bottom 6 is good, especially if we have the current 3rd line. The top 6 is nuts and the 4th line was really good last year. Just let it play out.
