Description
The Hawks are going to continue the rebuild. It's not the most fun thing in the world and I'm sure Toews/Kane are going to hate it. Can't say I blame them, but we don't always get what we want in this world. COVID's real. Dach's injury is real. Bowman getting real assets for 1 year UFAs was a really good thing. Drew Commesso and Wyatt Kaiser are both really good prospects that were TDL acquisitions. Looks like we'll need to do it again with Hoffman...

Heck, maybe they'll get the #1OA this year...kinda like Toews/Kane. Gotta try to stay...optimistic???

If hawks are rebuilding, they wont sign Hoffman and Hoffman wouldnt sign on a team that is rebuilding

They should probably look at selling off someone like Murphy at the Deadline or Zadorov. 26/27 year old DMan a 1year away from UFA dont really fit into a rebuilding teams timelines

I don't agree with that logic. This is the 1st year of the "COVID Cap"...teams haven't had any time to plan for it. Realistically, less than a handful of teams (also rebuilding) that can pay him what he wants with the term he wants. This includes the Senators...which I don't see happening. His best chance at a big contract is likely next off season...so go for a 1 year prove it deal for a team that needs a Top line winger. Name 1 other team with $5M in cap space where Hoffman will get the opportunity to play on a line with a future HOFer? He'll rack up the stats and even get traded to a playoff contender where he'll have another opportunity to shine. This is the exact WRONG year to be looking for a long term big money deal. He's the odd man out.

Additionally, The idea that pending UFAs don't have value at the TDL is just factually wrong. Not sure what else to tell you...just it's wrong.

Can't see bowman trading zadorov (who's 25 and fits just fine with the rebuild) right after trading saad to get him. Murphy is too important to this defense to trade away right now. He's the best defensive Dman they have. They could maybe trade him next season once the kids get a little more NHL experience.

I could see them trading De Haan and janmark this season if there's a market for them but that's about it. If stan really wants to piss toews off he can try to trade Keith but idk if bowman wants toews requesting a trade or not.

Not a great year to be a UFA for sure. Hoffman on a 1 year deal makes sense. To even get $4M per year (cap space per this site as of today), he's looking at Rangers (Middle six/PP2 role at best), Blackhawks, Panthers, Predators and Blue Jackets...maybe Devils? I could be wrong but he doesn't seem like a Torts kind of player. The Panthers and Predators aren't great teams either...and all of sudden Blackhawks, get a top 6 role with teams focused more on stopping Kane, pot 20+ goals, get traded to a playoff team at TDL (couple playoff goals always seems to help players get paid) and try to cash in next off-season is a pretty good plan for Hoffman.

Blackhawks get to pretend they're trying, and try to get a pick or player at TDL.

Columbus still needs to sign Pierre Luc-Dubios too. I don't they they have the cap for both.

My point is if hawks fully commit to the rebuild. That’s 3-5 years away, so locking up guys throughout their prime ufa years while rebuilding would be odd if hawks do commit

Not saying move out every vet or pending ufa but if the teams going to do it, commit and doit right or else you will be stuck in no mans land like the Sabres. Never good enough to win not bad enough to get lottery

What do you mean with this? It's a 1 year deal that's meant from the start to be traded at the TDL for futures/picks/prospects. That's what happened to Lehner and the Hawks MIGHT have their goalie for the future.

Well right now, nobody wants Hoffman for the money I'm pretty sure he thinks he can get. If you track Hoffman's advanced stats including in Ottawa, when he's on the ice his team gets scored on more then his line scores. That horrible stat follows him no matter the team or the line he's on. He is a huge liability defensively and very one dimensional player.

The hawks are really only missing 2 pieces. I think if they get a 1LD in this draft then find a new starting goalie they're pretty much done with the rebuild. They should accomplish one of those 2 things after this season. By letting crow go and going into the season with 3 unproven goalies they will either get really good draft position to draft that 1LD or one of the 3 goalies will truly earn that starting job.

They already won the lottery as a middling team and got Dach. If by some miracle they get 1OA this year and get Owen Power they're right back to competing. To say the rebuild could take 5 years everything would have to go wrong.

Oh I think they're further than 2 pieces away. Yes they need a #1D and yes then need a goalie, but they need at least 1 power winger too. I was watching 2015 playoff games yesterday and it's amazing to go back to look at what a force Hossa was.

I just think the "rebuild" would be over with 2 more pieces. There's always that trade or two that really make you a Stanley cup team.
