Yeah I don't see how LTIR helps Tampa on here. You're subtracting Johnson's 5 mil which makes Tampa go from being 2 mil over the cap to 3 mil under. But then you're adding Zetterberg's 6 mil to LTIR. Yet you're still 3 mil under the cap. So where's the value? Even if you are receiving a 7th round pick instead of the Z Zombie contract, you're still 3 mil under the cap.

I think that something like this trade is more realistic than other DET/TB trades I’ve seen on here. Zetterberg doesn’t help TB and I think it’s a very low pick or futures going back.

It’s net 0 cap space after LTIR. Its the same as that package for future considerations. We are essentially buying cap relief from Detroit

Yeah you're getting Johnson's 5 mil in cap space. That's it right?

Yea. But there’s some weird stuff about accruing cap space throughout the season I don’t know if LTIR helps that or hinders that.

When you trade for a player on IR, you add his cap hit to the team, so their cap amount goes up. When you place the player on LTIR, the teams cap doesn’t go up, it isn’t relief. The amount the cap changes is complicated, and the term “pools” is used. There are two types of “pools”, but basically, each day the team is above the $81.5MM cap limit, that exceeded amount is withdrawn from the pools. So the team cap is not raised, and there isn’t extra cap for other players. The exceeded amount is actually the LTIR players cap hit that went over the cap limit.

If a team trades for Zetterberg, they must add his $6.083MM to their cap, immediately. Then if the team goes over the $81.5MM, then the team gets to use the pools for Zetterbergs cap hit, not other players. There’s no benefit to trading for an injured player unless you have an unsigned RFA, but that’s another situation altogether.

Hinders if over the cap ceiling so it actually hurts TB to take Hank’s LTIR.

LTIR is probably the most confusing concept for most fans. I’ve seen a wide sort of responses on this site and others explaining the benefits of acquiring Hank’s contract and they don’t fully grasp the concept. Some do a great job and others not so much. I merely created this ACGM for the ‘visual’ learners so they can see the cap and roster.

Here’s an in depth article on the TML acquiring LTIR for an RFA. Warning, it’s still confusing, lol.

Currently the only loophole is if a player comes of LTIR after the regular season ends you don't have to move anyone around because there is no salary cap in the playoffs.

You can also get a copy of the actual CBA or just read it on line.

Isn't Zetterberg contract insured.
At which point what difference does it really make to DET? It's like trying to claim dubinski off CBJ and say you are doing CBJ a favor. Your not.
In the end what this boils down to is TJ for a late round 1st.
A 4 year 5 million contract with like 20 million real cash coming from DET is worth a lot more than a late round 1st. Period.
At some point that needs to get through TB fans heads. If it was so easy as just a late round 1st, he'd have been moved months ago. No one wants a late round 1st for a 4 year problem.
TB wouldn't accept that, so why do you insist that others do?
